She began another grueling 24-hour shift at the hospital as a young, energetic physician. Life was proceeding on track at an amazing but exhaustion was taking its toll more than usual that night.
After a short nap around 3 a.m., she leapt out of bed to respond to a call to come to the emergency department. When her feet hit the floor, the breath was sucked from her lungs as she realized that she couldn't feel her legs.
