How to Have Work Life Balance as a Catastrophic Independent Adjuster (without giving up your career)
Still waiting for the freedom that comes from being an independent adjuster?
I've done both catastrophic and a daily claims and often the hardest part of catastrophic work is feeling like you never get to live life. Catastrophic claims can become dangerous to your life because you feel like you can't pass up on an opportunity. This causes stress, anxiety, doubts, strained relationships, and regret.
You wonder if you'll ever be able to stop working and start living.
Decide What You Want Out of Life
If you want more work life balance, you've got to ask yourself what you want out of life.
Is it a $500,000 paid for home, 2 Tesla's, and a big retirement fund? Or is it time with your kids without having to stress about making rent? Often we believe we have to give everything to make money, but we only have to give enough to get what we want.
What you want determines how much of life you'll have to give up to get it.

Put Boundaries in Place
You will never make enough money.
It always feels like we need more. If you want time with your loved ones, a healthy diet, calm mind, and life outside of work, you'll have to fight for it. Claims will consume your entire life if you allow them.
Once you reach your base monetary survival goals, you need to be more selective about what assignments you select.
Control Your Spending
We've been conned into believing we can purchase convenience, and that convenience makes us happy.
This Convenience Con causes us to spend more money than we need to. We eat lavish steak dinners while deployed, time-saving devices, but with each purchase we are giving up more of our future selves. We shackle ourselves to a hamster wheel of work, all for convenience.
Control your spending and you can begin to control your life.
