How to Have a Stress-Free Move: Simplify the Process with Our Two-Step Plan

Moving can be one of the most stressful life events, and much of that stress comes from the daunting task of packing and relocating your belongings. Add in the complexities of a home sale transaction, and the pressure can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Our two-step move process and comprehensive client support services can make your move smoother, more efficient, and far less stressful.

Step 1: Mentally Commit to the Move

The first step is resolving to sell. Mentally accepting that you will move commits you to the process and sets the stage for success. This mindset shift is critical for staying focused and motivated throughout the journey.

Step 2: The Reverse Express Shipment

Drawing from our military experience, we incorporate a strategy similar to the Express Shipment concept used during relocations. In the military, an Express Shipment ensured vital items arrived first at the new location. In our process, we flip this strategy: you pack everything in your home except for necessity items.

By packing and removing bulk items first, you’ll:

  • Declutter your home, making it more appealing to buyers.
  • Increase the likelihood of selling faster and for more money.
  • Avoid moving unused items to your new home.

This is the perfect time for a home edit, where unnecessary belongings are sorted out, leaving your new space lighter and more usable. A professional home editor can make this process easier, and as part of our services, we include professional home editing from Abbsolutely Organized for our clients. It’s one of the many perks of working with The Husband & Wife Real Estate Team.

The Final Steps

Once your bulk items are packed and stored, your movers will handle them until your new home is ready. Alternatively, you can store these boxes in your garage stall if you are performing a self move. This leaves only your necessities in the home, which can typically fit in your car or a small rental van for an effortless final move.

Alternative: Move First, Sell Later

For those who prefer to move into their next home before selling, we offer tailored programs to facilitate this transition. Even in this case, we highly recommend a home edit to maximize the benefits of decluttering and staging your new space.

The Timeline: A Three-Week Checklist for Your Two-Step Move

First, pack necessity items such as clothing, medications, toiletries, and necessary everyday kitchenware into our provided necessities boxes. These branded, white boxes are easily identifiable and won’t be taken away in the phase one move.

?Once your necessities are safely separated, it’s time to start your edit.? Abbsolutely Organized will provide you help and guidance throughout the process. They will hold two appointments with you to consult and answer questions about the edit process and offer product suggestions for organizing your new space in part two of the move.

Here’s how you can perform this process efficiently during your home’s coming-soon campaign:

Week 1: Sort and Declutter

  • Day 1-2: Pack necessity items into our provided “necessities & valuables” boxes starting in the kitchen on day one and bedrooms/bathrooms on day two.
  • Day 3-4: Edit additional rooms, one at a time, deciding what to keep, donate, or discard. Use the KonMari or similar method if needed.
  • Day 5-7: Tackle larger categories like books, kitchenware, and toys.

Week 2: Home Edit and Pack

  • Day 8-10: Blue-Tape Appointment: Together we will mark items such as large furniture which will be removed and stored during the phase one move.?
  • Day 11-13: Move to seasonal and non-essential items (e.g., holiday decorations, extra linens). Begin with the least-used areas (e.g., attic, basement, storage closets, general garage items).

Week 3: Finalize Necessity Packing

  • Day 14-16: Stage each room after packing away bulk items. Store away packed boxes in a garage stall to create open, inviting spaces.
  • Day 17-19: Double-check each room for forgotten items. Don’t forget to look under beds!
  • Day 20-21: Home staging appointment. We will supplement your home with staging to complete the space for pictures and showings. Relax and review your progress. You’re ready for the sale and the move!

By following this timeline and leveraging our services, including professional home editing, you can approach your move confidently and efficiently. The two-step process not only makes moving manageable but also ensures your home shines in the eyes of buyers.
