How to Hate Sales Strategy Less - and Make More Money as a Result

How to Hate Sales Strategy Less - and Make More Money as a Result

It feels like sales is the stepbrother you hate seeing and marketing is the sister you always want to go on vacation with.?

This is a common sentiment and the issue comes down to money beliefs and rejection sensitivity.?

Marketing feels more low pressure and low stakes - no one is rejecting you to your face.?

Sales, on the other hand, feel like asking someone to dance and them telling you no - devastating.?

The key is to understand the rejection isn’t personal (promise)!

Listen in to how I break it down here:

Money Beliefs

One of the most common misconceptions about money is that if you make a lot of it - you’re inherently a bad, greedy person.?

Enter sales - which is all about asking people for money.?

That understandably causes a lot of discomfort around charging for services.?

Especially because many people unconsciously believe things like:?

  • I have to “work hard” or “a lot of hours” to make money?
  • Only greedy, bad people ask for money and make a lot of it (ironically, you can do MORE good when you’re making money)
  • If it’s easy or fast for me to do, I shouldn’t charge a lot for it?

However, the idea that you would pay someone more for taking longer is actually pretty comical.?

Efficiency and mastery is what we pay MORE for.?

And the less you charge, the less your prospect values your services and the less benefit they get from it.?

I dare you to try giving your expertise away for free for someone and see what kind of results they get (speaking from personal experience here).?

Minimizing Sales Rejection & Understanding It’s Not Personal?

There are a number of ways to navigate a sales conversation from a place of objection PREVENTION vs. “overcoming” them.?

When you “overcome” an objection it feels like you’re convincing someone.?

Nothing feels more desperate than being rejected and then trying to tell the person why they shouldn’t reject you - that is the mainstream way of dealing with objections.?

Instead, you want to sniff objections out like a pig searching for truffles.?

Always come from a place of curiosity while holding space for their objection to be valid and this to actually not be a fit for them or you.?

Because the truth is objections aren’t personal, they’re 100% about your prospect and 0% about you.?

Objections are concerns your prospect has about whether they’re an exception and won’t get results like everyone else, is the time right, are they making a stupid decision, etc. ?

They need you to guide them to the decision that is in their best interests.?

It’s impossible to help them if you’re taking it personally and getting defensive the whole time!?

To sum it up, marketing may feel lower stakes and seem more appealing because of that.?

However, sales will increase your income faster and easier than marketing on any day of the week.?

If you find yourself finding everything else to do but master sales - and you’re not seeing the results you want - then it’s time to take a look at your sales resistance.?

And pull it out at the ROOT to make sales as effortless and easy as it can be.?

If you’re a good person who wants to make a lot of money - let’s talk!?

Hi Aleasha Bahr, I just listened to the podcast! One part I related to is "the less you charge, the less your prospect values your services and the less benefit they get from it." Totally agree. The less you charge, the less benefit they get, the more it justifies the lower fee to them. Vicious circle, If that makes sense! Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Marketing does feel like the fun part, while sales can be intimidating. Your perspective on why people shy away from sales really hits home.
