Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, is a celebration of the important people, events, and achievements of African Americans throughout history. During this month of February, we are sharing the story of a handful of incredible women and their roles in shaping in the tenets of Zondra TV: Faith & Inspiration, Business, Lifestyle & Media, Health & Wellness, Money & Finance, and Entertainment. I am honored to introduce you to our first featured woman, an advocate for Faith & Inspiration.
The first African-American woman to own and operate an advertising agency, Barbara Proctor, was born in North Carolina in 1932. She studied English, education, psychology, and sociology at the Talladega College in Alabama. Proctor then worked as a teacher, counselor, and social worker until she struck up a friendship with a Chicago-based disc jockey.
VeeJay Records hired her as a publicity and liner notes writer; this led to her negotiating a deal for the first records of the Fab Four and introducing the Beatles to America in 1962. Proctor's first job, at an advertising agency in 1964, led to 21 awards within her first three years. She became a prominent copy supervisor, noticing companies "focused on pleasing the customer instead of selling the product."

Finally, after being fired for refusing to compromise her values, Proctor created her own ad agency in 1970, Proctor and Gardner Advertising, Inc, using both her married and maiden name to secure funding, early clients, and launch a successful ad agency. She prevailed
This month is the perfect time to reflect on what you want to leave as a legacy for your business or family. I never would have imagined that I would be a TV Producer and sharing my journey on various stages. Yet, my strength comes from helping others avoid the mistakes that were in my life.
