How has Brexit vote affected visitor numbers ?
Visitor numbers for September have now been released by the ONS. The show an overall increase of 1% to 3.12m, although their total spend was down 6% to £2.1bn.
This is in line with the 3-month trend with the period from July to September also up 1%.
Holiday visitors account for a third of the visits and are up in September by 1%, although holiday visits for the quarter as a whole by -2%.
Family and friend visits are up by 5% for the quarter and business visitors up by 3%.
Overall year to date figures are 3% above last year which represents a record for the same period in previous years.
Based on the lower value of the pound, expect this trend to continue into next year.
