How to Handle Your Toughest Difficult Conversations with Din Jenkins

How to Handle Your Toughest Difficult Conversations with Din Jenkins

“Don’t try to win the conversation.”

I spent years working to become a lawyer. But whenever my wife, Whitney, says I’m acting like a lawyer, it’s rarely a good thing. ????

We have all fallen short in this regard. That’s why I was so excited to have my friend and negotiation expert, Din Jenkins, on Negotiate Anything to remind us why this is so important.

As a Deputy Chief with 18+ years of experience in law enforcement and as a certified crisis negotiator, Din is the perfect person to address this.?

As emotional beings, we can become extremely impassioned about the issues that matter most to us. We want to convince our conversation partner that our perspective is the right one. We want to win the conversation.

This is a natural response to a highly-charged discussion - so there is no need to feel shame. That said, this desire to “win” can get in the way of progress - especially when emotions are running high or the topic is particularly sensitive.?

What I appreciate most about Din is that despite the truly complex nature of his work, he has a gift for simplifying his approach in a way that is both relatable and easy to understand.?

We had a great discussion on this episode of Negotiate Anything!?

I hope you’ll listen and share your thoughts below.
