If you're bad with money, it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to managing your finances. However, you can take some basic steps to manage your finances.
1. Don't be hard on yourself
Everyone makes mistakes with their money at some point. Just be honest with yourself about where you need to improve and make a plan to get there.
The first issue with financial disasters is the fact that they are messy.
One of the best ways to handle your finances is to get organized!
Not many will agree with me, but it is the key. It works for me, so it might work for you too.
Getting a good handle on your finances starts with getting organized. This means knowing your bills and debts, your regular expenses, and how much money you have each month.
There are several ways to get organized, but one of the easiest is simply using a spreadsheet.
2. Start making a budget and stick to it
One of the most important things you can do is to make a budget and stick to it. Keep track of your income and spending to see where your money is going. Then, make sure you stick to your budget to reach your financial goals.
If you're unsure how to make a budget, plenty of resources are available to help you. You just need to start to find which way of budgeting is suited for you.
Once you have your budget set up, make sure to review it regularly and make adjustments as needed.
3. Build up an emergency fund
An emergency fund can help you cover unexpected expenses, like a car repair or medical bill. Try to save up at least 3-6 months of living expenses to prepare for anything. Go further to up 12 months if you are already married with kids.
Those who have a marriage, job loss, medical emergencies, or any other unplanned event can attest to the importance of an emergency fund.
4. Invest in yourself by taking courses on personal finance
If you want to get better with money, invest in yourself by taking courses on personal finance. This can help you learn about budgeting, investing, and other important topics.
Personal finance is a life skill that everyone must have, regardless of their current financial situation.
The goal is not to become a financial expert but to develop the basic knowledge and skills necessary to make sound financial decisions.

5. Get help from a financial planner
If you're struggling to get your finances in order, seek help from a financial planner. They can offer guidance and support to help you make the best decisions for your money.
The skeptical will say that financial planners are a waste of money. Many think that way too.
But when you have no time, having a financial planner means having someone to guide you through the process of getting your finances in order. And a financial planner can hold you responsible and be that partner in financial success.
It is an investment that may save you a lot of money and headache in the long run.
6. Reward yourself for good financial behavior
It's important to reward yourself for good financial behavior. When you stick to your budget or save money, treat yourself to something special.
There must be some fun in all of this!
This could be buying a small item you've been wanting, going out to eat, or treat yourself to your favorite destination.
What's important is finding something that motivates you to keep up your good financial habits.
Finances can be difficult to handle, but following simple steps and guidelines can get your finances in order. Start by getting organized, making a budget, and investing in yourself. Then, seek help from a financial planner if needed. And finally, reward yourself for good financial behavior to stay on track.
No matter how bad you are with money, you can take steps to improve your financial situation.
With effort and dedication, I believe you can get your finances under control.
