A guide to navigating life’s ups and downs
My Ten Coping Power Moves to Banish Sadness, Frustration, and Heal Pain
1. Love and care for yourself first.
At the darkest times in my life, I knew who I needed most: me. Love yourself, take care of yourself, and become your own best friend. Get rid of drugs and alcohol to have a clean body, start eating super healthy, getting great sleep, and exercise. Your body is your temple. Love yourself.
2. Faith in a higher power.
Find your form of spirituality, whether in religion or somewhere else, that connects you with the universe and makes you aware that you are just part of a much bigger plan. I believe everything happens for a reason, even the bad things, and we must trust things will work out in the end. Faith and belief can lift you out of the deepest depression. You are not alone. Once you tap into this, you will feel guided, supported, and on your way to healing even the deepest wounds.
3. Be the light.
I don’t remember where I first heard that but it has stuck with me. I try to generate positivity and spread it to others. I was a coach long before I knew what coaching was. Maybe it is a smile, a kind word, asking if someone is ok, or a hug, this has become my life’s motto. Give to get. Serving others will fill you with immense joy and good karma will come back to you tenfold.
4. Cultivate a purpose.
Why are you here? Who are you called to serve? Find those answers and life will take on a whole different meaning. If you are asking how,?start here . It is ok if this doesn’t come to you right away. One’s purpose only comes if you ask for it and you spend time in deep reflection. Your purpose will be your North Star guiding you through the darkest nights.
5. Seek out the right mentors, partners, and friends.
When you look for answers, you will discover a wealth of wisdom in this world. Become a researcher and look for those who have answers and perspectives for you to study and learn from. Not everyone will become your mentor. Maybe they are only meant to teach you one small thing. If you continue this journey, you will find the mentors, partners, and friends that you need to uplift, inspire, and teach you.
6. Fill your heart with daily gratitude.
Gratitude heals. It is very hard, if not impossible, to feel stressed and grateful at the same time. Gratitude is a practice that you repeat if possible daily. Think of all the things you have to give thanks for and your entire mood will shift. You will develop an abundance mindset.
7. Reconnect with nature, exploration, and travel.
Nature is your best medicine. Your stress levels immediately drop when you are in a beautiful forest. Learn to love the outdoors in all its’ uniqueness and in every climate. Build a walking routine. Consider this non-negotiable like taking your medicine. Try to go explore or travel as often as your schedule permits. Make time for this. It will open your heart to new things and help cultivate curiosity inside you.
8. Help others.
There is something incredibly powerful in kindness. Find ways to be kind and helpful every day. This concerns both people and animals. Challenge yourself to try to help another being daily, even in a small way.
9. Tap Into the creative, fun inner child.
A person without hobbies and interests quickly becomes a dull person. Don’t let the inner child disappear. Seek out activities that make you feel alive and young. Try new things that make your heart sing. Learn a language. Pick an art to practice. Do something daring and bold. Laugh. Alot. The secret to staying young by keeping the creative fires burning and never let yourself become boring.
10. Build the life you want to live.
One of my famous quotes comes from?Coco Chanel:?“My life didn’t please me, so I created my life.” You are the architect. You can design anything you possibly can dream of. Decide. Dare. Do. Triumph.

My name is Krista, and I’ve had my share of adversity in life. After a turbulent childhood, a sexual assault, a divorce, and losing my father too soon, I have used many of these techniques to heal myself. People often ask me how I can be so positive, but I just smile because life is too short for sadness, wouldn’t you agree? We can’t always control or change bad things that happen, but we can choose how we process them in our minds and how we show up daily. Be the light. See you again soon, dear reader!
