Though the term ? hazardous waste ? may sound scary! ??There is probably a lot of it gathering dust in your business and home right now!
According to the EPA, the average U.S. household generates more than 20 pounds of hazardous waste per year. Even worse, as much as 100 pounds can accumulate in the home, often remaining there until residents move out or do an extensive cleanout.
Hazardous waste refers to products that can catch fire, react, or explode under certain circumstances or corrosive or toxic (EPA). Items like paint, cleaners, oils, batteries, some light bulbs, sharps & needles, antifreeze, and pesticides commonly contain these hazardous ingredients and require special care to ensure proper disposal.
If hazardous waste is thrown away or recycled without the necessary precautions, there can be dangerous implications for the environment and sanitation workers. This is why it is so important to know what to dispose of.
???♂? As a leader in the environmental services industry, I'm here to help you identify responsible and convenient hazardous waste disposal options to prevent potential harm to the environment and your home.

???? Never throw any of the following items in the trash: ????
- Paint. Only non-toxic and water-based paints can be thrown away with the rest of your trash; however, they should be dry first. Open the lid and allow the paint to dry out before putting it out with the garbage.
- ?? Lightbulbs. Some light bulbs contain mercury, which is toxic. Recycle bulbs by taking them to a store that recycles them or contact me to learn more about our Recycling Mail-Back Kit.
- ??Batteries. Alkaline and lithium batteries can start fires in trucks and landfills. Collect batteries in a box and take them to a store that recycles them. We offer an easy and convenient solution through our Mail-Back recycling program. By recycling batteries, you can protect your home, community, and planet.
- ??Motor oil. Many places accept motor oil as long as it’s in a labeled, closed container. Visit Earth911 to find a collection site near you.
- ?? Electronics. Obsolete cell phones and laptops contain toxic materials and sensitive data. Contact me to recycle ALL your electronics and protect your information with a Recycling Mail-Back Kit.
