Congratulations as well to Melanie Walter, Executive Director of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA), and Adenah Bayoh, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Foya Development Group. Since assuming her role as CEO in 2019, Taiisa has spearheaded Monarch’s mission to end homelessness and secure housing as a human right for all in New Jersey, with a particular focus on advancing racial equity across the homeless planning and affordable housing spaces. Her expertise in strategic planning and advocacy as well as her hands-on approach serve as the driving force behind our agency’s ongoing work. We are so proud! This is a well-deserved recognition that truly exemplifies the remarkable work of these three inspirational women.

I had the fortune today of bearing witness to Rev. Soares educating faith leaders the importance of forming a “people plan” foremost when entering housing and community development work. Thank you to my man Eddie LaPorte and the NJ Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, my sister Taiisa Kelly and Monarch Housing and my brother Oscar Parham of the NJ Redevelopment Authority along with all the partners involved in organizing today’s powerful convening.

We have officially released reports detailing the results of the 2024 Point in Time (PIT) count. Please find our full press release, statewide and county-specific reports, and county-specific press contacts on our website at?https://lnkd.in/gAZbpT4V. ? Major takeaways: Total of 12,680 individuals across 9,148 households experienced homelessness Continued year-over-year increases in total homelessness: 24% increase statewide compared to 2023 14% increase in households with children under 18 experiencing homelessness since 2023 Continued racial disparities: Black/African American individuals represent 12% of NJ’s population but 48.8% of individuals experiencing homelessness ? Once again, these results illustrate the ongoing importance of the annual PIT count as a concrete measure of the mounting housing accessibility and stability challenges faced by communities across the State. Planning for the 2025 PIT count is well underway; New Jersey’s communities will be conducting the next count on January 29th, 2025. ?
