How to guarantee a high quality translation

How to guarantee a high quality translation

Translating a text requires time and effort. There are lots of factors that translators need to consider other than just the words themselves!

Here at Tongue Tied, not only do our translators only ever translate into their native languages to guarantee high quality translations, but they also actually reside in the target country. So let’s take a look at some of the things that our translators have to think about in their work…

  • The original style and effect has to be maintained in the translation (whether it be humorous, technical or colloquial)
  • The audience of the translation must be considered – who will be reading the text and why?
  • Changes may need to be made to the layout of a text due to cultural or linguistic differences – this involves things like headings, numbered bullet points, etc.
  • Idioms can’t always be translated, sometimes it’s possible to find an equivalent, but other times paraphrasing will be needed instead
  • The language of the translation (including its grammar, spelling, word order) must read naturally – the language must be of a high quality!
  • Some research may be needed on the subject of the original text, as the translator will need to be familiar with specific words and their meanings in the given context
  • Sentences may need to be completely restructured or divided – some languages favour long sentences, whilst others prefer much shorter structures!
  • Any culture-specific references (like place names or the names of prominent figures in a certain country) will need to be modified to make sense to the new audience

And this is by no means a complete list!

At Tongue Tied, we know what it takes to make a good translation and recognise just how important this is for our clients. If you would like to learn more about the various translation services we offer, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
