How to GROW your staff
One of the biggest successes we have had in our business of late, is my MD Adele, went on Maternity Leave and had an amazing baby boy, Toby - Already signed him up to the rugby club but she doesn't know yet!
At first when she told me, i thought, Crap - i might have to do some work for once!!
BUT within a few days a plan, was formed, and put into action. Mostly so i could avoid having to work for a living!
We needed an area manager to step up and take over 90-95% ish of the work that Adele used to do.
We eventually promoted from within, and Adele started off on a 6 month journey to teach/coach/manage/nurture/mentor Hollie to step up and take control, which they both did.
There were tears, frustrations and everything in between BUT Hollie is doing really well, pushes the staff, manages and nurtures them and is very much focused on driving the business.
Shes turning out to be a very good area manager and a great choice.
So, how did we do this?
Training - Hollie needed training in a lot of aspects as you can imagine. New people in new roles always will but if the training is good then it should happen quickly.
Self motivation - The best training in the world wont help you if the individual doesn't want to learn - You can help but ultimately its down to them.
Share the vision/mission - If people have a common goal and vision then you get to the end point quicker and more effectively.
Learn to let go - You HAVE to trust them - if you don't they will never grow and learn and fulfil the role you initially recruited them for.
You know you are systemised when you as a business owner can step out the business but try and get the business to a position so your MD can do the same!
