  • It is difficult for companies, especially the Big Ones, to change processes and systems that have worked decently well in the past.
  • Digital tools and platforms requires having staff with the right technical skills.
  • You worry that customers who prefer personal or legacy ways of interaction will be turned off by an abrupt digital shift.
  • Upfront costs. While digital can reduce long-term costs, initial investments in things like new IT infrastructure, software, training etc. can be substantial.
  • Security and privacy risks. With more customer data and transactions happening online, cybersecurity and privacy protections becomes critical.
  • Lack of digitization in the broader industry. In some sectors, key suppliers, partners, regulators etc. may not be fully digital either.

Here's the easy Solution...

  • Bring employees into the process early. Get their input to show how digitalisation can make their jobs easier and highlight the benefits. Provide training and support.

  • Do a ROI analysis to make the case. Start with changes expected to have the biggest impact. Phase in investments over time rather than all at once.
  • Partner with tech vendors with a proven track record. Consult IT security experts on best practices. Be transparent with customers about safeguards. You don't have to be a tech company. Know the important points.
  • Identify partners willing to collaborate on digital initiatives. This can help drive broader adoption. Encourage trade associations for change.
  • Set KPIs, run controlled pilots, demonstrate results, get stakeholder/customer feedback, then scale. A flexible, data-driven process can ease the path.
