How to Grow as an Entrepreneur

Bringing Your Best Self to the Table

As an entrepreneur you will wear many hats, metaphorically and sometimes literally - hard hats are in right now! Each “hat” comes with its own set of tasks and responsibilities, all of which would be nearly impossible to fulfill if you are not at your best! ?

Prioritize yourself

If you are feeling sluggish and tired from a long night spent binging Netflix and eating Takis, you are definitely not bringing the best version of yourself to the table. It’s important, as a leader, for you to prioritize your body and yourself. This is especially true with mental health, which people often push to the side. Unfortunately, as the Canadian Mental Health Association reports many entrepreneurs experience mental health related issues. Entrepreneurship can be taxing, that is why it is important to check your temperature both literally and metaphorically every once in a while. Taking care of your health will help take care of the health of your business. You should never push your mental health to the back burner.

Delegate tasks

Successful entrepreneurs show their leadership skills by delegating tasks. No person can run a business solely by themselves and take on every task. A successful entrepreneur knows that from the beginning. While we might start off wearing a lot of hats, eventually you have to hand some down to the next person and focus your attention where it’s needed. Entrepreneurs are also leaders and should strive to build a team of people with unique strong suits. The best leaders give each of their team members opportunities to lead.?

Delegation is enriching for both the entrepreneur and the employees working for them. Suddenly, there is so much more time for the entrepreneur to focus on critical matters, while in the same vein, each employee feels valued and crucial for the operation. Value adds to happiness within one’s work.

Spread the wealth

Part of being a successful entrepreneur is being a strong leader who knows when it’s time to spread the wealth. An entrepreneur is a leader both in the market when they push their idea and when they push for the success of their employees. An entrepreneur realizes that there is a certain need that a customer segment, or niche, needs. They then examine that opportunity along with the resources that they have to meet the need of this niche. Thus, an entrepreneur leads by orchestrating change in the competitive environment. At the same time, an entrepreneur is a leader to their employees. They look out for their employees and lead by example. They make sure that each person has a role and each person is appreciated for the work that they do.

The best leaders create environments where everyone can earn money and grow together. It is a significant moment in the company when you can begin to hire employees and share the wealth. We can all earn together.

Be Humble

Entrepreneurship is not a one-man show. Even when it looks like there is one person, usually a successful entrepreneurial venture includes many people who each play a significant role in getting the venture to be successful. Staying humble will help you take on any challenge that comes your way during your entrepreneurial journey. Remember to always appreciate those who helped you get where you are today.

To grow as an entrepreneur, you must remember to prioritize yourself, especially in the moments when it feels selfish to do so; you are worth the priority! Some other key things to keep in mind are delegating tasks, spreading the wealth and keeping your humility along the way. The journey is tough, but the rewards are sweet. Keep walking down that yellow-brick-road.?
