How To Be a Great Teammate-Even If You're WFH

How To Be a Great Teammate-Even If You're WFH

Now more than ever, teams are being put to the test through time and distance, sickness and health. No matter where you're working, whether it be on your couch with your dog, or in an office, it's even more important that you support your teammates and work through this chaos together. The sturdiest team relationships will come out of this pandemic even stronger than they entered, and the sky's the limit when your team is solid.

Celebrate your teammate's victories... It can be difficult to keep momentum and competition flowing when there's a computer screen separating you and your colleagues. Make sure that when someone gets a win, it's celebrated like you ALL got a win! In this climate, it's the little things getting us through. Go ahead, have a virtual happy hour for picking up a new client, you know you want to!

Check in on your teammates mental health...Let's face it, times are less than ideal. This can affect people in different ways, and routine changes are not easy. Not being able to go to your normal gym, or engage in some retail therapy is a huge bummer. Check in on your teammates and ask them how they're doing! Sometimes all it takes is them knowing that someone cares. Great team's are built on trust, and knowing that your team cares about you and your mental health is the foundation.

Do something fun and exciting for someone...Everyone is going CRAZY sitting in their houses right now, staring endlessly into their laptop screens. Surprise someone with an E-giftcard to go get a coffee, or send them a handwritten note or motivational email. Something to make them smile! Doing the same thing everyday with no fun is getting old, so be the light in someone's day.

Use this time to get better...You can look at this time as an excuse to slack off, or you can seize the day. This is a great time to better yourself, and in turn benefit your team. Check out some new trainings on LinkedIn, master a new skill, or ask a teammate to teach you something that they're great at. A team is only as strong as its weakest link, and when people see you growing, it raises the bar.

Get to know each other outside of work...Coke or Pepsi? Dunkins or Starbucks? Learn about your teammates. Figure out what their hobbies are, and what their lives are like outside of their cubicle. Understanding perspective is a huge part of being a cohesive unit, and without in-person interaction, it can be hard to understand where people are coming from. Make it a priority to value your coworkers passions and attitudes even from afar, and your team dynamic will soar.

Here at Recruiterboom, our team culture is at the forefront of everything we do. I'm happy to say I have some of the best teammates around, and I hope these tips will help solidify your team and contribute to a culture that you are proud of!
