How Gratitude can Power a Successful Team
Communication, ambition, and high performance are often touted a the top qualities that help professionals and teams excel. While there’s no doubt that these qualities play important roles in teamwork success, there’s another quality worth exploring — gratitude. Though it may not be the first thing that comes to mind, gratitude can strengthen a team in ways that nothing else can, and it can contribute to every member of the team working at their best. Here are just a few ways that fostering gratitude can help:
Expressing Appreciation
A successful loan process requires a successful team. Though loan officers might get the most facetime with a client, it’s essential to realize how many people play a role in the entire process. Get in the habit of expressing your gratitude. It’s easy to get complacent when you have a great team. Everything gets done and you always have what you need on time. This isn’t magic though. This is because of hardworking team members who are putting in the effort. When you make a point of voicing your appreciation and acknowledging everyone’s contributions, you support a well-functioning team.
Boosting Morale
Gratitude boosts morale. This isn’t surprising. We all like to be appreciated for our work. When someone notices your effort and thanks you for it, it tends to promote a positive attitude. That attitude is contagious. Keeping that positivity moving around the team encourages a level of energy that fuels excellence.
Reinforcing Meaning
It can be challenging to engage with your work when you’re not connected to its meaning. Gratitude can help us reconnect with that. Whether it’s our own appreciation of our fellow coworkers or someone else thanking us, gratitude can help an entire team to feel the significance of their work.

Improving Communication
Expressing thanks is an important piece of good communication. When you make a point of saying thank you, you promote open communication channels in the team. We need to be able to address all kinds of issues with our team members, both positive and negative. If you rarely express your gratitude, expressing a frustration or something less positive can be difficult. When all team members feel acknowledged and appreciated though, it’s much easier to bring up misunderstandings and conflicts and resolve them smoothly.
Understanding Your Role
How do you fit into the team? A successful closing isn’t all about you, but you also play an important role. When team members express their gratitude for one another, it helps everyone to appreciate the part they’ve played in the process. When someone’s hard work is regularly overlooked, it can create feelings of resentment and imbalance. When team members acknowledge each other, though, it’s much easier to see the value in your role, along with everyone else’s.
Expressing gratitude can be a valuable fuel to motivate and connect the entire team. It’s not hard to incorporate, and the results will show that it’s well worth the effort.
