Gorakhpur is all set to put on the tag of garbage-free city soon as it establishes India’s first Integrated Waste Management plant by September 2025.

The ambitious project worth 300 crore INR investment is developed by collaborating with NTPC. The waste management facility is also known for offering technical expertise in offering sustainable waste management.

A Centre for Sustainable Waste Management and Job Scopes

According to the Municipal Commissioner of Gorakhpur – the integrated waste management facility will have three plants.?

These three waste processing plants to be initiated under Gorakhpur’s garbage-free project expedite certain futuristic benefits. They include -

  • Leading the city to circular economy model?
  • Boost revenue, create job scopes, and serve as a learning hub for professionals to treat environmental waste sustainably?
  • The centre is expected to have the capacity to process wide range of waste without damaging environment?
  • The plant re-processes all types of tyre waste, biomedical waste, e-waste battery, terracotta waste. Apart from that the plant can recycle vehicle scrap waste, plastic waste, domestic hazardous, industrial, and organic waste too
  • The waste re-processing centre is expected to accommodate and recycle 500 tons per day to produce charcoal
  • The second plant – the wet waste plant will recycle 200 tons of waste per day to make Bio-CNG.?
  • The entire project has been initiated under PPP (Private Public Partnership) model?
  • The model expects to save 12-15 crore INR monthly on vehicle fuel costs
  • The hazardous waste plant is a separate facility to process domestic hazardous waste using eco-friendly methods.?

  • The project also aims to meet the needs of eight neighbouring urban local bodies to foster regional sustainability in the city
  • Increase job scopes by endorsing the circular economy model in Gorakhpur?
