So often, people are uncomfortable about letting the world know about their accomplishments. They may not even post their photo on their LinkedIn profile!
And hiding who you are is a big mistake---both professionally AND personally. It's not up to other people to seek you out, to go searching for your expertise. And if you aren't putting yourself out there, they can't find you.
Take this in! Really take in that it's your responsibility to let the world know about you and your expertise!

3 年I think I can relate! In fact, I think we all make the same mistake. It's so easy to keep our accomplishments to ourselves. We don't want to brag. We don't want to seem like show-offs. But the truth is, it really is not a good idea to be shy about sharing what you've accomplished. And I'm not just talking about sharing your work history on a LinkedIn profile (though that's a great place to do it). I'm talking about putting yourself out there in every possible way—not just being willing to share your personal story with others, but writing blog posts, making videos and podcasts, giving presentations at conferences or local meetup groups...everything you can think of that will help you connect with other people and make them see how valuable you are. It's not up to other people to seek you out. Maybe they won't even notice that you exist unless you tell them what you have done. Great share!

3 年Oh man! I can relate to this at a very deep level. We have all been guilty of this - but I have experienced it very closely in my life. Shyness. Imposter syndrome. Humility. Whatever you want to call it. But the fact is that if we do not tell others about our gifts - it is a disservice to us, others and the world. We should not hide expertise because that is what others are looking for and they should find it in us. How good we get ourselves out there is necessary. You might be surprised to learn that it's not up to other people to seek you out. It's not up to them to go searching for your expertise. And if you aren't putting yourself out there, they can't find you. It is NOT about you. It is about THEM! It is about the person reading your resume or scanning your profile on LinkedIn or Googling you or asking you for a recommendation. You are the expert in your field—they need what you have and want what you know. And if they aren't finding you, they will keep looking until they do find someone, but guess who that someone will be? Someone who has put herself out there and provided value in some way. Someone who provides a solution and makes it easy for others to find her.
