How good a leader do you think you are, would your team follow you all the way to your dreams?
I just wanted to say this today after watching a movie last night.
The movie was called ‘the intern’, not a blockbuster movie by any standards, but to me it really hit home, have you seen it? I encourage you to watch it if you haven’t, and watch it again if you have, but through different eyes.
I had just done two talks with some beautiful people earlier that day, they are salon owners and they wanted to know how to get their salon to make them a dream amount of money this year.
How they could possible take this dream to the team and get the whole team on board.
Well this movie had the eye of the tiger, no pun intended. The movie was about a normal lady making it big in the Internet shopping world, she had no degree or any idea how to run a massive business, but the business was growing fast. If you followed the owner in the movie, she was successful, but growing her business too fast and was so busy, stressed out and working long hours.
The business itself was getting ahead of her and her skill level and the idea of the movie, was she going to give it away to save her marriage? Well in my eyes it was magical.
I saw a lady who was so full of passion that her business grew because she actually cared about every single client, every single staff member and every little detail. You could see all the staff thought she was worth putting in the extra hours to help the business grow. They also looked at how stressed she was and wanted to help relieve the stress, organise here, help her. The staff were on her side and would follow her anywhere. It was powerful to see this in motion.
Maybe if I hadn’t had a talk on this very subject, I may never had gotten the beauty of the movie to hit me square between the eyes. I had only talked on this very subject earlier that day twice to two salon owners. If you want to grow your salon you NEED your team to back you 100%. It takes a great leader to getyour team to follow them to your dreams.
You need to lead well, but you also need to let your team in on your WHY. WHY you do what you do. They need to know WHY you started your salon, WHY you want things done a certain way, WHY you are so obsessed with client satisfaction.
In the movie all the 240 employees all believed in her WHY, they got it.
Do your team believe in your WHY?
Have you ever told them?
I know it was only a movie but it hit home last night, as it was still in my brain from earlier and my talks to the salon owners.
If you want to reach new heights with your salon, you MUST get your team to believe your WHY. You cannot do this alone. Your dream is only a dream until your team help you achieve it.
There you have it an average movie that really hit home for me.
