How to Be a Good Interviewer
I am a Recruiter and I interview prospective employees on a daily basis. However, I hate interviewing for a new job. I know my skills at work, but when it comes to being on the other side, I completely understand how it is difficult to convey all your years of experience in 1-4 conversations. However, unless we own our own business, we must interview! Here are some tips to help you be concise and get the job offer.
1). Answer the questions asked. If the interviewer needs more context, they will ask.
2). Be strategic or selective for the companies you are applying to. Do not apply to 100 jobs and interview for 25 based on the numbers. You will be pulled in too many directions at once and can simply make mistakes.
3). Do your research. Glassdoor.com is a great site where current employees and prospective employees help you understand what the interview process looked like for the roles they interviewed for.
4). Get to know your interviewers. How long have they been with the company? What industries or companies were they with before?
5). Send a thank you message. Show gratitude during the process. It's not expected, but it will definitely make you stand out.
Happy Interviewing and I hope you get the job that you are interviewing for the New Year to come!
