How God Spoke in the Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm Match
The aftermath of such a heavily anticipated match-up between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm has been media candy for journalist and sports commentators alike, yet even the church arena got a dizzying dose of spiritual enlightment for the 'underdog'. The focus of this article is not to tear down the accomplishments of Ronda Rousey-she is a great fighter and athlete. That being said, 'the world's most dangerous woman', is now defeated and most likely wondering even after a week what happened in the Octagon.
Ronda Rousey has been adored by thousands of fans, but loathed by her explosive overconfident verbal jabs to her opponents. Seriously it was getting outrageous. I understand from her interviews the marketing these athletes must engage in, to fill the arenas. We all know 'Hype' and confidence interest people. We know it sales tickets, but Ronda's attitude before the fight with Holmes was very much akin to Goliath vs David in the Bible. Goliath stood outside the gate with the Philistine army for forty days boasting and intimidating the Israel army of Saul. Goliath was invincible, the favored contender. He was confident and he was physically imposing. During, the 'weigh in' for this fight, we see Rhonda try to intimidate Holly in a brief scuffle and go on a long rant of how she would send this 'preacher's daughter' home crying.
I tell you, watching this, I felt strongly that it was Ronda who felt intimidated. The fact that Holly is given the name 'preacher's daughter' since her father is a pastor, should have been a tip-off that this athlete who's father even comes in the ring with her, comes to her games... has blessed her. I tell you..Be not deceived, God is not mocked.(Galatians 6:7) Now, I am not saying everyone who has a priest in the family and sits them longside the ring is covered by victory. I am saying the elements of this story in particular from beginning to end was a stage of events orchestrated by God to speak a message that Ronda Rousey's title was going to be taken away for her unsportsman-like behavior. She had the 'I' complex. Like Nebuchadnezzar, and God rend her of her title as He rended the king of his kingdom. Rhonda was flagrantly prideful.
The bible tells us..Proverbs 16:18 pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Holly on the contrary was humble, quite spoken, focused and patient. She had been training with nothing to loose, and Ronda underestimated her. Early in the fight you could see Ronda get the message clear-she was not going to win this bout easily at all! Holms was suited in her armor, Ronda had kinks in her suit and Holly found it, and penetrated. Too often we have seen people become so conceited, they believe they are irreplaceable, indispensable even on the job. There will always be someone on the come-up. Holly was not expected to win. The bible says.. Matthew 20:16 So the last shall be first and the first last, for many be called, but few chosen. Boxing and sports is a great lens through which to view humanity's strength. Now it's Holly's turn as champion.
The superwoman has been knocked out of the sky. Job 34:24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
I believe Holly stood in the council of the Lord, and as such she was rewarded. Jerimiah 23:18 But who has stood in the council of the Lord, that he should see and hear His word?
I don't know Ronda's religious beliefs, but we are to know the tree by the fruit. Her conduct in public was obnoxious, whether she was the 'best' or not. As such, she lost shamefully in the 'Public eye', the place she spawned wicked insults to her opponents. When it's time for any of us to loose a position, I'd rather it be with humility..even then God gets the glory, and His message is always clear.
