How To Go On Vacation With No Trouble?
When you live in a big city rhythm, even a long-awaited, carefully planned vacation can be overshadowed by tickets forgotten at home, obsessive thoughts about work, or bewilderment of what's in your suitcase, upon arrival. So that such annoying oversights do not ruin your vacation, we have compiled a list of things that need to be prepared or checked before going on vacation.
Deal With Business Issues
First of all, a month or even a few months before your vacation, start planning all the work tasks in such a way that solve more problems and, at the same time, not overwork. The best option is to be as organized as possible and do one or two more small tasks every day. This will allow you to evenly spread the workload, keep a clear head, ensure that you would not be distracted by work issues, and go on vacation in a good mood.
So, set realistic deadlines for all tasks, be they articles, projects, meetings, etc. Divide all tasks into three groups:
- Complete the task in advance before vacation
- Postpone and do after returning
- Delegate to the specialists of your team
Of course, it is not truly easy to distribute work across the team in this way. For a particular position, this may be a little less problematic. Still, for those on whom other team members depend, it is essential to place a lot of importance on planning, management, and delegation.
Take Care of Your Pet
So that not to worry about what is happening at home while you're on vacation, you need to foresee problems in advance and take care of their solution. If you have a pet that you do not plan to take with you, think about who will take care of it. If a cat or dog calmly tolerates a change of environment, ask your family and friends if someone is ready to take him in.
If not, it makes sense to consider the option with a hotel for pets. Yet, you need to approach this choice as responsibly as possible and not postpone this issue until the last days before the vacation.
Home Sweet Home
When going on vacation, pay your utility bills in advance. Although you probably can do it online wherever you are, it is better not to think about such things at all during the rest.
About a week before your long-awaited vacation, revise the fridge. Think about whether you will have time to eat what is stored there, whether it is possible to freeze something before your return, or give them to someone. Food waste is a global issue, and conscious consumption is an essential small step everyone can make towards positive changes.
Even if you do not have animals to feed or plants to water, it is worth leaving someone you trust with your home (your parents or close friends).
Things happen, so it is better to foresee everything that might occur. If you are leaving for a long time, let someone come in once a week or two to check if everything is alright, pick up correspondence from a mailbox, or ventilate the room.
Before leaving, do not forget to close the water taps (if possible, turn off the water), close all windows, turn off all electrical appliances, unplug them (except the fridge), water the flowers, and take out the trash, and lock the door.
Last Moment Tips
Before you take an Uber, or pick up your bag and set out on an adventure, double-check the following list:
- Passports, visas, if needed, dates on the tickets.
- Which airport or train station are you leaving from?
- What will the weather be like? Maybe, it is worth taking an umbrella or raincoat?
- Account balance, cash in the wallet.
- Roaming/mobile phone balance.
- Have you installed all the mobile apps you may need? For example, mobile banking, navigator, maps, travel guide, translator, and anything else.
- Are all your gadgets charged?
- Do memory cards in your smartphone and camera have enough free memory?
- Would you need an adaptor to connect appliances in the destination country?
- And did you pack your toothbrush?
- Think about memorable gifts for your colleagues and friends
All in all, vacations are always something incredible and troublesome for us, thus think about them in advance and take care of all the operational issues before going. The key idea is to ensure that your working flow will be the same perfect when you come back!
