I had a chat last week with a relative. She told me that she wanted to change her life by changing her weight. Long story short: she got rejected by a guy because of her weight. So she wanted to engage in the weight loss path but was already afraid of the ups and downs. She dreaded giving up.?

I asked myself: WHY DO WE GIVE UP? What if it was possible to never miss a goal?

Facts: According to a study by the University of Scranton, 92% of people who set New Year's resolutions fail to achieve them. Additionally, a study by the Statistic Brain Research Institute found that 45% of Americans usually make New Year's resolutions, but only 8% achieve them. Another study by the University of Bristol found that after just one week, 25% of resolution-makers had already given up on their goals.

Some people, when they have a goal, they go straight and reach it. But, for the rest of us, this could be challenging. When we start, we are happy and excited.?Then, as days pass, we start to doubt because we do not see quick results.?Of course quick wins are always good wins: they not only encourage us but also set the path to success.?Nonetheless, certain goals do not have outstanding intermediate wins. They are long and require a huge engagement.?

When we face those challenges, it is always a good thing to remember that we need to 'be the Tortoise, not the Hare'. Slow and steady wins the race!?This is a reminder that consistent, persistent effort will ultimately lead to success, even if it may take longer than the flashy and overconfident approach of one's opponents.

For big goals, we need to demonstrate Patience, consistency and relax periods.

Elon Musk demonstrates patience in several ways in his approach to business and innovation. One example is his approach to developing new technologies and products at his companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX. He is known for setting ambitious goals and working tirelessly to achieve them, often over long periods of time. This requires a great deal of patience, as he faces numerous challenges and setbacks along the way.

Another way he demonstrated patience is by being persistent in his efforts to overcome obstacles and achieve his goals, even in the face of significant challenges and setbacks. For example, SpaceX faced multiple failed launches before it was able to successfully send a spacecraft to orbit and return it safely to Earth. Despite these setbacks, Musk and his team continued to work on the technology and make improvements, ultimately achieving their goal.

He also demonstrated patience by investing in long-term projects such as developing electric cars, solar energy and reusability of rockets which take a lot of time and resources to develop.

Whether you are trying to learn a new competency, lose weight, or starting a company, just remember that our energy is our resource. We need to better manage it to be able to endure the journey. It’s OK to have silent periods with no visible immediate results. If results are not showing up, try to relax, meditate and visualize the goal to reach. Relaxation helps to calm down the mind to see through the obstacles.

And If you forget your goal or you get back on the bad habits you want to abandon, do not worry. It is normal to have setbacks. Remember that everybody does. But the 1% who succeed keep pushing and get back on track. Hence, do not give up even though you have moments or days of 'loss of control'.

The key takeaways are:

Keep pushing like the tortoise because ??Slow and steady win the race??.

  • Be patient because success does not come over the night. Rome was not built in a day.
  • If it feels stressful, just relax and accept setbacks.
  • Get back on track even after a period of inaction. Do not give up.

2. Framework

Each day before bed, make a list of:

  • The decisions you are proud of
  • The decisions you regret
  • Promise yourself to make better decisions
