How To Give Talks That Sell A Lot Of Anything...

There’s MULTIPLE layers of advanced NLP, positioning, and framing going on up there…


And it’s how I draw my audience in…


And begin the sales process BEFORE I ever get to making the “invitation”.

Your intro is what’s TRULY going to set you apart from every other speaker of the day…


And is going to prime your audience for TRUE transformation.


In this post, I’m ONLY breaking down the intro.

Here’s how the intro is broken down…

“Thank you all so much! First off, let’s give a BIG round of applause for [Event Host], and allowing us all to gather here today!


*let them applause*


And last but definitely NOT least, give an even bigger round of applause for all of the helpers and volunteers making this event happen, and the AV team! it’s not possible without THEM!”


Okay… so what I did there was built rapport, subliminally, with my audience…


By showing appreciation and humility. I just humanized myself and created contrast between me and EVERY other speaker on stage making it all about them.

They should be “lobs” that they absolutely say YES to.


This is an NLP technique called a “Yes set”. Getting the audience to say YES three times right in the beginning.

This is one of my FAVORITE NLP techniques, and one of the MOST powerful.


It’s human nature to want to be versus someone. And I want my audience to feel special, to feel like they’re part of an EXCLUSIVE few.


So I say something like…


“If you’re in here (pointing to the venue) then you’re not like everyone out there (pointing outside).


Which tells me that you’re [insert their desired outcome], or you wouldn’t be here (getting them to sit up and pay attention, because they DON’T want to be someone they’re not - like the person I just affirmed that they are because they’re there with me)”

A presupposition is exactly like it sounds…


I’m “pre” supposing something… but not all presuppositions are created equally.


There’s POSITIVE and NEGATIVE presuppositions. As you can see above, i presupposed your dedication, commitment, and greatness.


I was using it to future pace you in the light I want you to see yourself in.


And example of a negative one would be something like: “And this is why you’re broke”.


Presuppositions matter, and is one of the best tools to close more from stage and video.

This last question in my intro is VERY important. It’s the question that’s going to get them to lean in and FULLY trust me.


It’s also the last question in my first “yes set” of the talk.


I asked for their permission to be real and honest, as well as ONLY give them practical advice.


Something they ALL want, even if they don’t know it.


You can see…


In less than 2 minutes I can set my audience up to trust me, get real transformation from my talk, AND a higher likelihood of taking my offer at the end.


I’ve been to over 100 events in the last 5 years.


I’ve seen hundreds of speakers over that time.


And 95% of them NEVER do this, let alone even know about it.


Just being willing to get up in front of people and talk doesn’t make you a badass speaker.

Your intro is what stood out the first time I met you… “Do I have your permission to…” was what hooked me.
