What are the 5 senses?
Sight (Vision)
This sense allows us to perceive light, color, and movement through our eyes.
Hearing (Audition)
Our ears enable us to detect sound waves, helping us to hear and interpret noises, music, and speech.
Smell (Olfaction)
The nose detects airborne chemicals, allowing us to identify different scents and odors.
Taste (Gustation)
Our taste buds on the tongue help us to distinguish flavors such as sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami.
Touch (Somatosensation)
This sense involves the skin and other tissues, allowing us to feel pressure, temperature, pain, and texture.
What have we done to replicate with technology?
Sight (Vision)
We have done well here and created both sides: A camera to receive visual data and a screen to display visual information.
Hearing (Audition)
Big banging speakers to play the sound, mics to receive sound.

Smell (Olfaction)
With digital scent technology and the ability to use chemistry to generate any scent, we have been able to read the chemical composition of odors to specify what it is and create our own smells.
Touch (Somatosensation)
I skipped Taste because that's the last piece of the puzzle. For touch we have been able to create haptic technology to produce sensations and to read and transfer the sensation as needed (Can you believe we can put a sensation in a database today, wow)
The Last Piece of the Puzzle: Taste (Gustation)
I’ve been searching for years to find this last piece. Once we can generate and read taste, we’ll have fully replicated the five senses. In 2020, Japanese researcher Homei Miyashita achieved this with the Norimaki Synthesizer, which uses electrically charged gel to simulate any flavor.
What does this mean for AI?
Well, if you think about it, everything. I honestly would bore you with the amount of ideas this has produced for me. But you think about it.
Robot butlers surely aren't far now.
