"Hey Josiah - how do I get my life together, get back in shape, go to the gym, get up early and get a lean body?"?
?
The simple answer is that you just start doing those things, but I know that’s way too simple of a response so let me dig deeper.?
?
First, you have to be driven to make a change. People make changes with the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change. When the pain of looking in the mirror and feeling terrible about your body becomes greater than the pain of going through a workout and eating healthy…then it’s time to get going.?
?
**PAIN**?
?
Motivation is so overrated. It comes and goes. It’s like that unreliable friend who is fun to hang out with, but when you really need them they’re nowhere to be found. ?
?
Instead, the driving force behind getting off your ass and getting started will be pain. The pain of remaining the same. Doing the same thing over and over again and getting nowhere. ?
?
The pain of looking at yourself and feeling unhealthy. The pain of feeling judged by your spouse or your peers because you’re not healthy and fit. The pain of waking up late each day and feeling way behind on the rest of the world. Those pains will initially be your source of fuel to make a change.?
?
If you aren’t feeling motivated - good. Forget about motivation - it won’t be there when you need it the most. Instead dig into why you’re going to change and focus on that emotion. ?
?
**SELF BELIEF**?
?
Your situation will become better as your self belief grows. You’ll start to make changes and you’ll realize “oh snap! I can do this”. You’ll see progress and your fuel will start to come from the self-belief that you have what it takes to make a change. ?
?
Self belief is very underrated. People usually quit before they see progress and therefore they never build up a belief that they are capable of achieving their goals. It’s so important to push through that initial tough period. That first phase of making a change is brutal. You have to tough it out. Self belief is waiting for you on the other side.?
?
**DISCIPLINE**?
?
Getting up early, eating healthy and going to the gym each day will become a habit once you’ve established a consistent pattern of discipline. This discipline comes from doing things you don’t want to do, but you know you need to do them, over and over and over again. ?
?
Discipline is a skill. It doesn’t appear overnight. It’s much more powerful than motivation and it’s main source of fuel is self-belief. Knowing you’ll get great results can drive you out of bed. Knowing you’re going to get in better shape will drive you to the gym. Knowing that healthy food will make you look and feel amazing will drive you to prep that healthy meal. ?
?
Discipline is a powerful weapon. But it must be sharpened and handled properly. You must practice daily and continue to get more and more disciplined. ?
?
This, my friend, is how you accomplish what you want out of life. ?
