How To Get Verified On Twitter 2017

*As of July 12, 2016, Twitter has announced an application process for verifying accounts.*

There once was a time when the twitter verification process was one of the wonders of the world. Nobody seemed to know how to get Verified on twitter. Not even twitter employees. There are quite a few methods many have tried in hopes of receiving the badge

x Tweet your user id and #VerifiedRequest along with a reason why you should be verified.

x Get people to impersonate you so you could report them.

x Put a song on iTunes.

x Pay a verified user to “submit you” aka take your money.

x Photoshop a blue check into your banner photo.

x Change the code on your browser and implant an artificial check.

All these verification methods above are false and usually fabricated by individuals that aren’t even verified.

What exactly does verification mean?

It lets people know that your Twitter account is both of the following:

• Of public interest
• Authentic

At first its main purpose was to help users determine between genuine celebrities and their countless imitators and parody accounts, but soon afterwards any high profile user with tweets of particular note in any field of interest became eligible for verification.

Previously you couldn’t actually apply for the verification, you were just offered it by Twitter when they ‘noticed’ you.

How do I get my Twitter account verified?

Here’s a step by step guide to everything you need to do to get that blue check:

• Twitter name that matches your real name or stage name (or your company’s real name if it’s a corporate account)
• A verified phone number
• A confirmed email address (corporate accounts should use their corporate email address)
• A detailed bio for your account
• A real profile photo of yourself or your brand
• A header photo that reflects you or your brand
• A birthday (for accounts that are not company, brand, or organization accounts) A website link in your account that reflects you or your brand
• Tweets set as “Public” in Twitter’s privacy settings
• A brief statement explaining your impact on your particular field, and why Twitter should verify you; a mission statement, if you will
• A scanned copy of a government-issued ID (like a passport or driver’s license)

Once you have updated your Twitter profile to meet all of these requirements, head to verification.twitter.com and fill out the form step by step.

After you submit the verification application twitter will get back to you in a couple of days, or weeks with their decision.
