Are you feeling stuck? Do you know you're playing small?
Every time an opportunity comes along that could take you in a radical new direction or you have a life changing new idea, there always seems to be a real reason or barrier that stops it from happening. It's so frustrating and exhausting because you know you're sick of....
It feels like despite all your hard work and sacrifice, you keep needing to kick the can down the road for a few years longer and with it you are loosing time you will never get back. It's not your fault, because all of the barriers are legitimate, reasonable and justifiable right?
Is this ringing any bells?
These external barriers can feel like powerful and overwhelming forces that are out with your control. The 4 most common ones that people have described as reasons for not stepping into my coaching room over the past 30 years, despite being desperate to and knowing it will transform their current reality are:
The truth is, I have spoken to hundreds of people in the past 3 years alone and I can only name TWO that any of these barriers were the real cause for them not stepping forward. For the others, they were stories, #fakenews that their subconscious (aka ego) was telling them so they could stay safe and not change.
Ok, it's harsh reality check time....are you ready?
They were making the decisions not to work with me based on who they were and not who they wanted to be! The worst part is that this thinking was also showing up in every decision they were making in life, not just in my room, and it was the reason they were stuck playing small!

Your subconscious ego is designed to keep you safe. It gathers facts to justify its position because it is designed to survive. If you bring it a new idea to consider it will automatically look for evidence to reject it! It hates new ideas and change....FACT!
Have you ever been faced with an opportunity that you were aching to do but you walked away because it felt too scary and the guarantees it would be ok weren't there? Well, its likely that your subconscious ego was working hard that day and won!
People often ask how I manage to step forward without certainty, in faith, to regularly invest in opportunities and have spent 6 figures on my own development without any 'guarantees' of success and not feeling 100% comfortable any time!
Well, its because I have learned that any new opportunity that is worth considering and is likely to have huge potential to help me to grow and get the radical results I'm looking for is ALWAYS....
Nowadays, any opportunity worth considering MUST have these 3 qualities before I will explore them. Without them I know I'll be playing safe and KEEPING MYSELF STUCK!
Every time I make a financial investment I know that the evidence (i.e. money, more time, advancing career) will only show up AFTER I make the decision to grasp the opportunity! It will NEVER come first!

2 年Thanks, Mary Ann Smith; I'll need to read this in my off hours. Limited or small thinking is something I counter every morning in my "Jon" time. There really are no limits, and it all starts with my thinking. Remove the limits and quit thinking small, I say.

2 年Disruptive, yes. I recall the time my business coach insisted I start doing videos and get a YouTube channel going. Ugghhh. Really? Now I enjoy making videos and it's part of my business. But I had to get out of my comfort zone. And take a few risks. Good article.
