Develop your own Debt Reduction Plan

The simpler the plan the more easily you will adhere to it. There are some simple basic fundamentals you can use that will help you reduce your debts. You must commit to the plan and stick to it and you will get out of debt in no time at all.

Step 1

No more new debt. If you are serious you cannot afford to take on any more unsecured debts. You need to get your finances under control by facing the situation you are in, being realistic and deciding to do something about it. To put it bluntly, NO NEW DEBTS. Speak to an adviser about the possibility of combining debts and committing to one monthly payment. If you can do this, combine all the previous debt expenses and pay off the combined debt as fast as you can.

Step 2

Disregard the minimum payment amount and commit to paying a set regular dollar amount above that minimum. By paying more, you will notice the minimum monthly amount start to shrink. Banks and credit card companies want you to pay the minimum so they can keep you paying interest and charges forever. Do not fall for the traps they set.

Step 3

Line up your debts according to size, putting the one with the shortest pay-off time first and the longest at the bottom.

Step 4

After you finish paying off one debt, use that freed up money to now pay more off the next debt. Stick with strategy until you have paid off all your debts.
