How to Get to the Top in Business, Career, Life & (single) parenting.

How to Get to the Top in Business, Career, Life & (single) parenting.

When my daughter was only six months old, I had to drive for Uber at night....

In the aftermath of my divorce, I found myself in a tough spot with two children, two dogs, two cats, a mortgage, double childcare expenses, and a mountain of unpaid bills generously “left for me” to unravel—all to be covered by a single paycheck.

I don’t think I slept or ate much during those grueling months. Faced with the seemingly impossible task of finding a cheap rental that would accommodate my children and our pack of furry companions, I had no choice but to figure out a source of extra income in order to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table — whatever it took.

The only way out is through.

For probably over a year, my diet mainly consisted of some cold chicken nuggets, fruit pouches, and leftovers of mac & cheese— whatever the kids left uneaten. I juggled four jobs at the time: a standard 9-to-5, my small consulting gig, a part-time role in a startup, and, when finances grew particularly low, I would tuck my children into bed and drive for Uber through the night. (By some miracle, my neighbors never alerted child services, and my children were blessedly sound sleepers.) Let me tell you, driving for Uber during the day vs. during the night is a completely different story - it is a totally different crowd after 10 pm and it was pretty scary!

Difficulties in life are intended to make us better, not bitter.

Needless to say, having full custody of two little ones, four jobs, and a mini home-zoo was not a sustainable long-term plan. Something had to change, and change fast. I realized that I had to change. I had to learn to think differently, act differently, and redesign my life the way I wanted it to be. They say, "What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger." - I obviously was not planning on dying under those circumstances, so I have started my new journey...

Changes don’t happen overnight, and it was not a straight climb up. Life threw many other curveballs my way, yet I kept on pivoting. The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. We must embrace challenges and burn them as fuel for moving forward.

Today, I live a quite different life. I take immense pride in my wonderful children, my career, my rapidly growing business, and a life filled with fulfilling moments.

It has been an over eight-year-long odyssey marked by highs and lows, restarts, failures, and unwavering perseverance. I am who I am today because of the journey I was compelled to undertake, the lessons I had to learn, the countless books I devoured, and the continuous process of reinventing and evolving myself.

Numerous friends have suggested I should write a book about it (haha!), while I may not be quite ready for that yet, I am launching this newsletter (outside of LinkedIn), in hopes of helping others navigate the complexities of business, career, life, parenthood & relationships in this ever-evolving world. There I will be sharing lessons learned on how to

  • scale in business without sacrifice

  • exceed expectations without burnout
  • build trust in professional & personal relationships
  • master arguments and conflicts management
  • live a "guilt-free" parenthood as a successful leader & professional

I"ll share some of my favorite books that pulled me up, inspired me and transformed my way of thinking about how we should be living life, as well as share pieces of my personal story.

It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation happens.

Have I figured it all out? Certainly not, and it would be foolish to believe that anyone else has. It is a continuous, lifelong path in pursuit of success. Success isn’t defined solely by wealth, titles, properties, or marital status. It is a delicate balance of all those (and many more) elements, aligned with your own purpose in life, that allows you to have a truly fulfilled existence.

For me, this may be just a midpoint… or perhaps just another beginning.

What brought us here won’t get us there, so we need to continue to reinvent ourselves, our journey, and the life we choose to live.

To unimaginable heights, my friends,

Yours truly,

Eva

Oh boy can I relate to this. I started out a single mom and I know what you went through. But you let that fuel your fire to rise up! Way to go!
