How to Get Through a Buyout Stress-Free

How to Get Through a Buyout Stress-Free

What has come across my deal making plate lately, are buyouts whereby one partner in business wants to buy out the other one. This business divorce could be as painful as a real one. So the question becomes, how does one get through this arduous process with grace and ease? Here are some tips to help you do that.

Stay grounded in what you want out of the deal

It’s very easy to get knocked off your game when you are going through the negotiation process. Emotions can easily get in the way. One quick fix is to place any emotions (grief, anxiety, fear) in an imaginary container and pencil yourself in for some downtime where you actually get to feel your feelings after the work day is over. This will enable to go into your negotiation process feeling extremely grounded and present to what you want out of the deal.

Release attachments to what no longer serves you

See in the opportunity in this deal to release attachments to preconceived notions of how you thought your life/career “should” be. Release the attachment to a business relationship that maybe you thought would last much longer than it actually has. Once you let go of those attachments, see how much space you have to create something new, that may be more aligned with who you are now.

Trust that you are supported

A lot of times, a buyout can come out of left field and that can rattle one’s inner psyche. This is a good opportunity to exercise your trust muscle. Trust that no matter what the outcome is, there is an opportunity that is more aligned with who you are and what truly desire waiting around the corner.

Get focused on the future

Nothing ever happens to us, it’s always happening for us. Can you look at this situation and ask yourself, what do I truly desire and how is this buy-out giving me an opportunity to do that?

Acknowledge your own growth and evolution

In my view, buy-outs are a way of kicking us out of a situation that no longer serves us. That said, your ability to see the purpose in why this has happened in the first step in transcending it. You can also try to think of three exciting things you can do with your life once it’s over.

Comment below and let me know which one of these steps resonated with you the most. I would love to hear from you.
