How to get rid of the overwhelm

How to get rid of the overwhelm

?I hope you’re having a top week so far.

?Are you one of the many recruitment agency owners who constantly feels overwhelmed with everything you have to do?

?I spent years racing from one problem to the next.

?I ran my business like it was a melting pot of problems that needed to be quashed in between bursts of growth activity.

?The to do list just seemed to get longer, the business issues more complex and there never seemed to be an end in sight!

?As my business grew, I had to sort it out because the overwhelm was escalating (as was my stress) as the business expanded.

It was becoming dangerous to my health.?

I knew deep inside that I had a choice to either kept operating on adrenaline and at some point, collapse in a heap, OR put in place a way to have everything dealt with in the business so I was no longer the overwhelmed business owner constantly on full throttle.?

The good in this – there’s always some lessons to learn.

?

Here’s my top 5 big lessons learned when it comes to breaking overwhelm ??

?

#1

Problem ??

Always expecting you can do more in a day, week and/or month than you realistically can.

The solution ??

  • Allocating the amount of time needed for each activity and picking the top 3 most important first.
  • ?Understanding everything doesn’t need to get done in one day. And ask yourself “What can I delete from this list or delegate?”

?

#2

Problem ??

Not having a system in place for every repeatable business function.

The Solution ??

  • As you are doing repeatable tasks record the process for yourself and others to follow.
  • You only want 1 way to do everything in your business. Make it simple; easy to follow and prescriptive.

?

?

#3

Problem ??

Making sweeping statements that can’t specifically be actioned. For e.g., I need to make more client calls, I need to create more social content, or I need to have more fun running my business.

The solution ??

  • Make your actions SMART (Specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and timebound)
  • ?For e.g., I’m going to spend 1 hr every day re-connecting with my network to source more roles. I’m going to post on LinkedIn every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I’m going to do something every day I love in the business. (For e.g. call my favourite clients.)

?

#4

Problem??

Wearing too many hats. Trying to figure out and do everything yourself.

Solution ??

  • Start to delegate. We know that it’s a falsehood that doing things yourself saves you money. It in fact slows your growth and reduces income.
  • Who not how. ?Ask yourself, who not how? Ask who can help you solve your problem.

?

#5

Problem ??

Not knowing exactly what you are aiming for and having no clear plan to get you there. This is one I see often. Agency owners will say to me “I want to double my revenue” but then I discover there is no plan sitting behind that goal as to how they will achieve this increase.

The solution ??

  • Take the time to create a yearly plan. What is it you want to achieve in the next 12 months that is a bit of a stretch but achievable?
  • ?Then work out your quarterly milestone and monthly then weekly actions to get you there.

?

These are the big 5 for me and once I was disciplined around these I felt more in control.

?

Everything was out of my head and either in a system or in a plan to be executed.

?

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, I hope there are 1 or 2 ideas here that help you.

?

Just a side note - If we’re not connected on LinkedIn feel free to send me an invite as I share more thoughts and ideas on there a few times a week that may interest you also and I’d love to read your content too.
