How to Get REO Listings & Attending the Five Star Conference

Given the fact that almost all my friends and connections on social media all revolve around real estate and REO – Each September I get deluged with questions and requests for advice on how to get more REO listings and make the most out of attending the upcoming Five Star Conference in Dallas.

This video and article was originally recorded and published prior to last year’s conference, however the information and techniques have not changed. If you are interested in obtaining more REO listings and/or will be attending this year’s Five Star Conference – this is the information that you need.

Just as a little background if you don’t know me – I was the largest REO broker in the country for many years before I retired and at one time had 77 different REO clients.

Almost all of which I obtained through attending conferences and networking. (along with additional follow up and marketing) – But it all still started at the conferences.

Conferences were the major part of my marketing

Over the last 20 years, I typically attended 3-8 conferences per year and spoke at many of them. I have attended well over 100 Real Estate and REO conferences and I did manage to learn a few things – and so can you!

It costs a lot of money to attend one of these conferences – Registration fee, Hotel, Airfare, Car service, Meals, and of course bar tabs.

Most people will easily spend upwards of $5000 – just to attend. Then add in another $5-10k in lost income from being out of the office for a week and attending conferences gets very expensive, and this is without even sponsoring something and taking a booth which can easily set you back another $10k+.

You really need to make sure you get your money’s worth and receive as much benefit and increased business as possible – it’s all about the ROI!

So, here are a few “Do’s & Don’ts” along with some hard-earned advice for those of you wishing to pick up more REO accounts at conferences.

Based on the many questions I was getting, I started thinking about all the things I wish someone had explained to me when I got started in REO and about how things really work in this industry.

As I began the outline for this article it soon became clear that there was so much information to convey that this was no longer going to be just an article but was rapidly becoming a short novel

There was just too much information and I really didn’t have time to write and edit this “novel” and still post it in time for everyone to make use of the information before the conference.

Special thanks to NRBA Member Robert Smith, not only for participating in the original video but for also helping me to record a new introduction.

Watch the video – learn how it’s done and then enjoy the conference, – and if you do it right, you can pick up a lot of new REO business and make yourselves a lot of money!

All the best and hope to see you all there.
