One of our leadership team member show significant positive difference in the way he work. “I was just thinking what else need to be improved”, that was his response when asked about it.
What need to be improved… sounds so simple… however, we believe there are some more fundamentals mindset that leads to his "seeking for improvement" mentality.
1 - He has a sense of ownership
If you are staying one night in a hotel, would you think hard, on "how I can improve this place ?"
Probably not. Why bother ?
But if this is your own house, I’m sure you will always think on how you can make it more comfortable, adding improvements here and there. The "sense of ownership" allows us to continually searching ways to improve the current condition subconsciously.
2 - He knows the challenges / problems on the ground
Many leaders are getting too comfortable sitting in their chairs and “delegate” work in the name of “empowering” the team. There is nothing wrong in delegating and empowering the team as long as the leader inspect what they expect. Blusukan is one of the best ways to learn challenges faced by the team on daily basis.
3 - He learns more effective and efficient ways of doing things
When you stop learning, you stop living… This statement is something that we need to always remember. Time keep moving, people are inventing better ways of working: how to work faster and with less effort. The day you feel content with yourself is the day you stop seeking improvement. Learning is inseparable from improving and there are lots of ways to learn new things. From reading, watching others work a solution, brainstorming with your team, and more. In this age of the internet, no materials for learning is only an excuse.
So the next time you are asked what improvement can you make in your team / company or even your own work / project, and you come up with I don’t see any ways to improve, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself those 3 things above. Do I care (have ownership) about my job / work ? Am I being out of touch with the day to day activity ? or Am I just too lazy to learn new things ?
Lucky for us, we work at company that embrace innovation as one of our core value. Keep on improving here and there is in our DNA, so let’s start this day with the new & improved mindset. You can do it !
