How to Get Out of your Job
Thinking about how to leave your job and starting a business? Believe it or not, you are already half way to reaching your goal! Since you have already begun to “think” about it, you have overcome the biggest hurdle of starting. As Yogi Berra said, "Ninety percent of this game is half mental." So now, what about the other half? How can you make the jump from “working for the man/woman” to being your own boss? Here are three steps you can take to get you to your goal.
1. Set a Goal – I know, sounds like one of “those” types of advice. But hold on, hear me out. By writing down (on paper) a very specific goal of leaving your job, with a solid deadline, you can super-charge your efforts. An example would be, “I will start a successful, cash-flowing business and leave my job by the end of this year.”
2. Think Big – Have big ideas that will propel you to overcome your current circumstances. If you don’t dream big enough, you’ll settle. How long have you been saying you want to start a business? Les Brown sums it up when he said, “Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.” Have a big goal.
3. Start Small – Making any type of change can be put into two categories. Drastic or gradual. Most people prefer gradual, others end up with drastic. Getting laid-off and on the street is definitely the drastic way. The gradual way, would be to start a business in small steps. Begin part-time and allow your business to grow large enough to replace your current job. Make sure not to jeopardize your “day job” while you’re starting your business.
Thinking is the start of change, and leaving your job is a big step in faith. Using the tips I provided, will help you achieve your goal of being your own boss.
