How to Get Out of a Rut
At some point in time, we all find ourselves in a rut, doing the same old thing day in and day out. But in order to get what you want in life, you need to take action. Inaction only causes more inaction, while taking action creates more action.?
I'm going to give you the exact steps to get yourself out of a rut and start taking action today!?
Get your body moving
It's never fun to start. The first few weeks will be difficult because your body hasn't moved in this way for a while. Your muscles will ache, and you'll feel exhausted. But one day you'll find yourself thinking about how to improve, and you'll come home from a long day at work and head out for a run, it'll become therapeutic and your body and mind will reap the reward. Once you start building momentum, it's hard to stop.?
Take small steps
Let’s keep going with the workout example. Don’t think about the entire workout, just think about the first exercise. The next one will happen and the next and the next. Just get momentum on your side first.
Celebrate your small wins
Once you get done with your first set, celebrate yourself. Micro celebrations for micro wins. When you start to celebrate yourself, you release dopamine, which is the feel-good hormone, which will make you want to do it more, which will give you momentum.?
Put your phone away
It's a constant distraction. I have a dedicated drawer in my kitchen, where I put my phone when I don't need it. I challenge you to put your phone away unless it's absolutely necessary and find something more productive to do with your time. You'll get bored without the distraction, and what you decide to do next is what matters.?

Ride the momentum
Once you start getting a bit of momentum, pay attention to how it makes you feel, the opportunities that are presenting themselves, the tangible changes as well as the intangible. Celebrate the momentum and keep riding it.?
Get around other people
I work out with a group of people every Wednesday. Yeah sure, sometimes I don’t feel like it but I know if I don’t show up, they'll call me out for it. People who are working towards the same goals help to keep you motivated. It becomes a lot easier to ride the momentum when others are beside you.?
The only person that can get you out of a rut is you. I know the feeling of heaviness when you're down there, but I promise that if you just start to take action, the momentum will come, and if you continue, 1 month from now you will be in a completely different place!?
