How to get out of Panic Mode

Getting out of Panic Mode - Why a reactive society is not the answer and a sense of calm in all conditions requires self discipline as well as the courage to step back and press pause.

Have you noticed everyone is a bit tweaked at the moment?

Arguments in carparks, people pushing past you in stores, horrid shootings, terrible road rage, break ins, bust ups and instant reactions of rage and anger at things that do not warrant such extreme reactions?

In our fast-paced and ever-changing world, it's easy to fall into the trap of panic mode.

With constant demands, information overload, and the pressure to keep up, it's no wonder that many individuals find themselves in a constant state of stress and anxiety.

However, we all know a reactive society is not the answer and how cultivating a sense of calm in all conditions requires self-discipline as well as the courage to step back and press pause.

The Pitfalls of a Reactive Society:

Living in a reactive society means constantly responding to external stimuli, often without taking the time to assess the situation or consider the long-term consequences of our actions.

This knee-jerk reaction mentality not only leads to increased stress and burnout but also prevents us from making well-thought-out decisions. It becomes a cycle of putting out fires instead of proactively addressing the root causes.

Things are getting way out of hand. Reactionary, triggered responses at work, home, partnerships, friendships and in our communities.?

We are in an epidemic of overwhelm.?In a multi-billion dollar industry aimed to reduce stress and burn out, with?more online tools to help with productivity and mindset than ever before, it's only getting worse.???

This is the?time of information overload. Of mental and emotional overload.

But we do have a choice.?We all know what to do.? The challenge?????

We actually need to get over ourselves and BE WILLING to let go of old patterns enough, to put the work in,?to actually follow through.

  1. It's time to take a real breath. As a collective. As individuals. To not 'cope' with this but to absolutely put a 90 degree shift in how we are approaching life, our own lives and each other.?
  2. To learn how to operate in this world?with a new sense of freedom, purpose and simplicity. To break up with chaos.?To breakthrough the clutter.??

My whole mission is to give you permission and the key to unlock confusion and see so clearly that you hold the key to your own happiness. That how you deal with what goes on around us is the ONE thing you can control.?

Any true change for the better requires us to show up for ourselves and take full accountability.? ?

Are you willing to let go of all the reasons why things are not possible or not working??As Gandhi?famously said - BE THE CHANGE.

The Importance of Self-Discipline:

To break free from panic mode, we have to embrace self-discipline to shift our mindset and do what I call "thought tinder" - swipe left on fear based negative thinking - and CHOOSE the next right thought instead.

The self-discipline to practice this switch from chaos mode to calm takes practice, like any muscle our mind is programmed to a certain action and reaction. Shifting gears from expecting the worst - allows us to regain control over our thoughts, actions, and emotions.

It empowers us to respond rather than react, giving us the space to consider alternative solutions and make conscious choices.

By cultivating self-discipline, we can navigate challenging situations with a clearer mind and a calmer demeanour.

Cultivating self-discipline (or flexing this new mental muscle of calm instead of chaos based reactions) requires practice and commitment.

Whether it's sticking to a daily routine, managing your time effectively, or prioritising self-care, these small acts of discipline build the foundation for a more centred and composed approach to life.

The Courage to Step Back:

In the midst of chaos, it takes courage to step back and press pause. We often fear that taking a break or pausing will cause us to fall behind or miss out on opportunities. However, it's in these moments of stillness that we can gain perspective, reflect on our choices, and recharge our energy.

Stepping back allows us to assess the situation objectively, rather than succumbing to the panic and urgency that surround us.

It opens up the possibility of finding creative solutions and making decisions based on a deeper understanding of the circumstances.

By embracing the courage to step back, we can break free from the reactive cycle and find a more sustainable path forward.

Here are three powerful tools to break free from panic and embrace self-leadership when you take one tiny step back for 60 seconds before you react:

1?? Breathe: Take a moment to inhale courage and exhale fear. Deep breaths pave the way for clarity and calmness. It also immediately brings you to a present state.

2?? Create Space: Step back and gain perspective. By distancing yourself from the situation, you open up room for new insights and fresh solutions. Ensure you actually get a proper view of what is happening rather than just being reactive to a situation that is not actually life or death.

3?? Solutions, Not Fear: Remember, there's always a way forward. Replace fear with curiosity, and unlock the limitless potential of innovative problem-solving and expect the best instead of always jumping to conclusions.

Start small by setting achievable goals and holding yourself accountable.

Practical Strategies for Cultivating Calm:

  1. Mindfulness: Practice mindfulness to bring your awareness to the present moment. This simple act can help you detach from the chaos and focus on what truly matters.
  2. Breathing exercises: Deep breathing techniques can instantly calm the nervous system and provide clarity in moments of stress. Take a few minutes each day to engage in deep, intentional breaths.
  3. Prioritise self-care: Engage in activities that rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit. Exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and make time for hobbies and interests that bring you joy.
  4. Set healthy boundaries: Learn to say no when necessary and establish boundaries that protect your well-being. This will help you maintain a sense of control over your time and energy.

To wrap that all up:

Living in a reactive society can cause unnecessary conflict, is draining and overwhelming. However, by embracing self-discipline to shift our mindset and having the courage to step back and press pause, we can break free from the cycle of panic mode.

Cultivating a sense of calm in all conditions allows us to make better decisions, manage stress more effectively, and lead a more fulfilling life.

So, take a deep breath, step back, and remember that true power lies in our ability to respond consciously rather than react impulsively.

?? It's time to shift from reaction-based living to conscious decision-making!
