How to get out of the hamster wheel – Part 2

Your steps to transition from a solopreneur to a tech consulting firm.?

Every consultant and every solopreneur is different. Everyone has a different story, and expertise in different fields, in research, and via different life experiences.

?In part one, I told you, that you have to find your niche. You have to find your personal blue ocean. Please see the good work and book of Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne or the material at LinkedIn: Blue Ocean Strategy

You have to find your personal blue ocean, where there is hardly any competition. Every tech expert has enough to do. We are in a world of technology. There are so many innovations, so much research, and so many ideas. Those ideas need tech-experts.

However, it is not just a matter of finding the niche, it is the matters of finding your own story. Start to search 'your story' and you will become a happy tech solopreneur who has made strides in escaping the hamster wheel.

?

In this part, I want to lay down some simple steps on how to escape the hamster wheel as a tech solopreneur.?

?

Step 1: Create your vision and your STORY.

?

Start by writing down some answers to the questions below

?

1)???????What do you love doing? This includes what you do that brings you the most joy in your life, and makes you feel fulfilled.

2)???????What are you good at? This includes things you are particularly good at, such as skills, hobbies, talents etc. Think of your talent and capabilities.

3)???????Thirdly, what can you be paid for? This refers to the world and the society at large. It involves what someone else is willing to pay you for, or “what the market will bear.” Consider this carefully and you will see interesting results.

4)???????Fourthly, what do the tech world and your clients need? Here you need to deliberate upon what you think the world needs to be a better place. The world here might not be the entire humanity but can refer to a small community as well. It would probably refer to the tech world based on your expertise.

?

Take this as a starting point, add all necessary questions which you need to tell your personal and professional story. And then discuss this with your peer or a coach. You can find tech consulting coaches, who would like to help you on this, also on LinkedIn. TEC ONE is just one of these. Take time to consider which is the best one for you.

?

Step 2: Start your business and begin with delegating

?

Since entrepreneurs typically have additional employees, they can delegate tasks or hire hands for a specific job function, such as accounting or marketing. Entrepreneurs often serve as the face of the company as they make connections to grow their business, while their staff manages the daily tasks. In contrast, solopreneurs do all the work, including the daily hustle and networking.

Start to delegate and outsource work even as a solopreneur. There is no need to employ people, but you can still delegate or outsource if you work in a network of teammates and other solopreneurs, which you can trust. Start to build this team and network of buddies in the tech- and even marketing and business development field.

Also, there are off-shore virtual assistants (VA), people that can help you with marketing and all the back-office work. I would personally recommend what Entrepreneur's Network --> eprenz.com in cooperation with TEC ONE is doing.

?

Step 3: Find out the next level of your company and grow

?

Solopreneurs want a more manageable-sized business that enables them to make decisions and get work done, so they naturally have a limit on what they can do because they work alone.

This is what is written by old-school bloggers and journalists on the web. However, as a solopreneur today you can scale. All you need to know is how to automate your tasks and how to outsource them.

There is a lot of material, that you can find, on the internet.

One of the good examples is here: https://youtu.be/aYaqEdpjn-A by Xan Hong

?

Consider using a variety of automation tools, such as the following:

?????????GetResponse. This tool helps manage email subscribers.

?????????G Suite. This is Google's project management app that lets users manage all day-to-day tasks, such as meetings, emails, calendars, presentations, and storing and sharing files.

?????????Calendly. This software helps schedule appointments and sends reminders directly to clients.

?????????WorkflowMax. This project management tool handles all the CRM duties, such as invoices and purchase orders.

?????????Expensify. This software helps businesses track expenses and keep personal and business transactions separate. It also integrates with other major platforms, such as QuickBooks, Sage and Xero, for tax time.

?

Step 4: Do what you are good at – and only this.

?

Solopreneurs often have other jobs and operate their business together. This is not recommended. If you want to escape the hamster wheel, you should think like an entrepreneur and commit your time and dedication to your business vision and mission, whatever this is.

?

You will earn enough for you and your family if you find your niche as well as your audience. And your audience needs to find you.

?

Just hire marketing experts for this, and back-office support. This costs less money, than ruining your health and time running in the hamster wheel. Do what you are good at, and nothing more. Everything else is a matter of delegation.

?

Last step: Find Investors for your business and exit

?

Even Solopreneurs should think in terms of business growth, investment, and exit. There are not many business coaches, who support solopreneurs, who are speaking about that. But to be holistic, you should do that.

?

So now start with your new tech consulting business. Escape the hamster wheel, stop being a solopreneur or freelancer and say hello to a structured business with a new vision and perspective in place.
