HOW TO GET MOTIVATED IN THE NEW YEAR
Refresh Your Why and Achieve Your Goals
What will the new year present you with? We certainly don’t have control over what life presents to us, but we can control our thoughts, emotions, and what we do next. Having clarity on what is most important, otherwise known as our values, activates motivation on what to do next and for goal achievement.
FINDING PURPOSE IN THE NEW YEAR
We all start off life with an infinite amount of choices on how we perceive the world. Over time we assign meaning to situations that we experience good and bad. Those tough times can create perceptions of a world that is hostile and difficult to navigate.
We can choose perceptions that limit happiness and fulfillment or we can choose to have an extraordinary life. Living a fulfilling life isn’t in what we take from it. Fulfillment is in how we perceive the world and the contributions we make to it.
Throughout history, we’ve had great examples of people that seemed to have been dealt a bad hand and yet made some of the biggest contributions to the world.
Making a difference can be as simple as giving life-saving plasma that will save countless lives. James Harrison became known as the Man with the golden arm. He has made over 1000 plasma donations throughout his lifetime, and these donations are estimated to have saved over two million unborn babies.
Charles Francis Feeney is an Irish-American businessman who made his fortune as a co-founder of the Duty-Free Shoppers Group. Over his career, Feeney amassed a $7.5 billion fortune that he intends to give away entirely in his lifetime. His foundation, The Atlantic Philanthropies, has funneled $6.2 billion into education, science, health care, aging, and civil rights in the U.S., Australia, Vietnam, Bermuda, South Africa, and Ireland.
“I had one idea that never changed in my mind—that you should use your wealth to help people. I try to live a normal life, the way I grew up,” Feeney says. “I set out to work hard, not to get rich.”
I COULDN’T SIT AROUND ANY LONGER
Over the last couple of years, I’ve witnessed more disruptions than any other time in my life. The worldwide pandemic, massive social and economic disruptions, created a perfect storm wherein people adopted others' values as a result of fear and uncertainty. When we don’t have a calibrated compass that guides us through the storms of life, we can get lost and make decisions based on temporary negative emotions.
The result can literally be chaos in the streets. When unclear about what we value the most, people follow leaders that appear to have the answers on what to do next. Mass shootings in our schools, the killing of George Floyd, and an ex-president that refuses to accept the results of the 2020 election, are the result of positive attentions gone radically wrong.
In my sphere, I was seeing people suffering from depression, anxiety, and literally dying. I couldn’t take it any longer. I had to take action. But what could I do? I am only one non-famous executive coach from Tucson, Arizona. It came to me on a long bike ride one day.
I’ll share my experiences on how I’m navigating crisis after crisis and I’ll guide others in meditation that has helped me. With the help of some really great people, we developed the concept and on December 6, 2021, The Monday Morning Motivation aired.
