Consultants, as a sales coach, I’m going to tell you all day long that referrals make the best clients.?

They already trust you. You don’t have to convince them you’re capable. They say yes faster.

But I know how it feels a couple of years into your business when those easy referrals start to slow down. And you find yourself waiting for them, knowing that something good will probably come your way, but not knowing when or how it will happen.?

It’s scary to feel like you’re not in the driver’s seat.?

Here’s the good news… you can take control. You can create referrals on repeat.?

First, there’s something you need to know.

When you’re in what I call The Messy Middle – you’re not new anymore, you’ve been in business for 18 months to 2 years – and the referrals aren’t coming as thick and as fast as they used to, that’s completely normal.

It’s not because you’ve done something wrong.

The truth is, when you’ve been out of corporate for a couple of years, some of the people who were eager to refer you have moved on.?

Your pool of potential referees from “before” starts shrinking. Other people are now top of their minds.?

I’ve been there. A couple of years into running my consulting business it dawned on me that I didn’t have enough potential clients in my pipeline.?

If I wanted a predictable workload and to build a business that would sustain me and my family, I realized I had to be proactive about making it happen. I couldn’t rely on referrals falling into my lap.

Like every consultant, I LOVE referrals. When you get on a call with someone who knows you, it feels natural. You don’t have to convince them about your value. They already trust you to help them.

I decided to find a way to take control of the referral process – so they stopped being sporadic and started being consistent.?

So I created a system that’s all about getting clear on the value you provide and the people you’re for, and communicating this consistently and often with your broader network so you stay top of mind.

Now I help other women consultants create a pipeline of consistent referrals. We call this system Referrals On Repeat.?
