How to Get More Podcast Hosts Saying "Yes" to You: The Right Media Kit
Years ago when I made my first Media Kit for podcasting, I thought, "Wow, what an easy way for hosts to find out everything about me and have me on their show."
And kinda like how a lot of people treat business cards, I shared that thang everywhere I could.
Surprisingly: it didn't work. All that effort I put into designing that thing ended up resulting in zero (0) hosts asking to have me on their show.
Now, years later, I figured out why: I didn't have the right amount of info.
Not Too Much
Some kits have way too much info. Every accolade, guest appearance, award, headshot, link, social media handle--it's all in there. And it's too much!
When a host looks at that, their brain goes into filtering mode: "what are the key pieces of info I need in order to tell whether this person is a great fit for my show and my audience?"
Much like a resume, if they can't determine this info in a short amount of time, it's going to go on the "no" pile.
Not Too Little
Erring on the side of brevity: keeping it short can bite you too.
Now instead of having a buffet of information, they have to creep on your socials to determine info about you. It creates a lot of homework, which also can result in a "no".

Just Right
A podcast host saying "no" to you because of your Media Kit doesn't mean you're a bad person. It just means they lack the time to decide that you're a great fit.
But Media Kits can still work. Where we go wrong is the assumption that you should only have ONE Media Kit.
Break that assumption! Have more than one, but have each one tuned specifically to a podcast category.
Take a look at the Official Apple Podcast Categories. Most shows fall into one of those category/subcategory pairings. If you know you can speak to one of these categories, then creating a Media Kit specifically for that kind of show will make it a lot simpler for a podcast host of that type of show to want to find out more. When they see you'd add value based on what you'd talk about on their kind of show, they're a lot more likely to say, "YES!"
