How To Get More Ideas For Your Content
Content… Content… Content…
If you feel anxious, discouraged, and sick to your stomach thinking you have to write content three times a day for 365 days a year, this post might be helpful to you.
And this is especially true if, deep inside, you know you’re not a copywriter.
You open your Google doc or Word and you feel paralyzed. You don’t know what you should be writing about. You think, I can’t just keep talking about the same thing, but I don’t know what else to say.
It feels like mental torture — not to mention the HOURS you waste beforehand mentally preparing yourself for this heavy-duty task.
My Personal Struggles
Back when I got started, when the time came to write content, I always found an excuse or something else to do. It was so painful for me that I ignored it completely. And that felt wrong, but I couldn’t force myself to do it, and when I did, I wasn’t consistent.
How could I ever come up with new ideas all the time to write three content pieces a day, every day? It just wasn’t possible for me.
I thought maybe it was because I’m not a copywriter. If I learned how to write copy, maybe it would get better or even easier.
So I bought some books and started watching YouTube videos. I definitely learned a lot from them, but somehow I still couldn’t figure out why it was such a big issue for me.
I had only addressed the surface level of the problem. What made it even worse for me was I thought I was the only one who had this issue.
Maybe I should have learned copywriting before I became a coach. (Imposter? Don’t let me get started on this one.)
That feeling there was something missing made me think I would never reach my full potential.
What I Have Realized
I managed to get by, got clients without content, and my confidence levels skyrocketed, especially after I helped some scale to seven figures.
Word of mouth became a big thing, but I wanted the predictability of bringing in premium clients on my own, so I tackled this problem again.
This time, I didn’t listen to that “write three content pieces per day for 365 days a year” thing.
Don’t get me wrong, it may have worked well for some people, but it certainly didn’t work for me because I wasn’t willing to spend all my time writing and not doing what I’m passionate about: coaching and making a real impact for my clients.
I also realized I didn’t need to be a great copywriter. All I needed was to understand my client deep inside so that my content would make them raise their hand and say, “That’s ME!”
So I developed my own framework. It has worked really well for me, and I’m about to share it with you in this post.
Hopefully this will inspire those of you who’re constantly beating themselves up for not doing what they’re supposed to do—writing more content.
The Framework
My framework is very simple, yet very effective. It’s based entirely on writing high-quality content vs. writing a high volume of content.
There are three types of content you could be writing about:
- Framework content (like this post)
- Engaging content (those short posts)
- Storytelling content (personal stories about yourself; I’ll attach one in the comments if you’d like to see a real example)
That’s it. Really simple.
You can mix it up with time-sensitive content like Christmas or Thanksgiving posts. I didn’t list them above because they’re seasonal.
Now, you might be wondering, how do I get more ideas for my content?
Buzzfeed… (Please, I’m just kidding.)
No, seriously, all you need to do is listen to your clients and potential clients. Here is where I get inspiration for my own content:
- Your student/client calls
- Your sales calls
- Your Messenger conversations
- Comments on your posts
- Topics trending in community FB groups
These are the five main areas that give me endless inspiration for content. Keep a spreadsheet/notebook handy to take notes whenever you’re in a sales call or a client call, or outreaching in Messenger, so by the time you get to write, you have plenty to talk about.
I hope this is helpful. If you need help to consistently attract premium clients, reach out. It’s going to be fun.

4 年Wow that is great. Infact I can see myself in this mirror. I have agonizing about starting a blog based on my doctoral research which has a lot to offer in terms of findings, recommendations, and Lit. Review. I wrote 320 pages of it, but doing a blog, every day, is like a nightmare. My dissertation topic was “ Impact of Teaching Presence on learning outcomes. A qualitative study of perceptions through the lens of online teachers.” It is quite a unique study, most studies on this topic are done through quantitative research, thus lack deep, think, rich description of perceptions. Further, almost recent studies have been done from the learners perspective, hardly any from the teacher’s perspective even though they are the ones who have create Teaching Presence. Could this be the start of a blog, I don’t know as I have never started one. Technology and social media are NOT my strengths, sometimes that is what holds me back.
