How to Get More? Give More.

How to Get More? Give More.

(2 min 22 second reading time) Before the use of email, I was an avid letter writer, and one of my pen-pals was a mentor who was the newspaper executive and publisher,?J. Warren McClure?(https://www.ohio.edu/mcclure). Our years of letter writing began after I received one of his scholarships, and I mailed him a "Thank you" letter. He was always encouraging and positive.

I always loved getting letters from him -- a highly successful businessman who believed in me. We continued writing until his death, and while I was getting my Master's at Arizona State University, Mr. McClure was my biggest cheerleader about my future being bright. Although we never met in person, I realize how his words are impactful to my personal growth as a human being.

Mr. McClure had a coaching program called "Freedom to Achieve," and he mailed me a business-sized card that listed ten simple mantras to live by called "Ener/Gems." I would read these each day, and Number Four was my favorite:

Ener/Gem 4: To get more, to grow more, you have to give more. Purposely work as hard as you are able. Be a go-getter, but being a go-giver will acquire a life of service and satisfaction that will richly bless you beyond measure.

The principle of giving with no expectations is a characteristic I made an effort to achieve. It is giving to someone because I believe it will make their life better, and when I do this right, it turns out to be a gift for myself too. It is the joy of letting go while seeing another person's moment of happiness. No strings attached. But, I did learn it is important to be selective.

Today, I work at a health tech startup called BurstIQ, and our mission motivates each of us to work hard to accomplish our higher goal.?Giving is at our company's core for my department, which is called the Developer Community.?

I provide a free license to health tech startups, so they have an opportunity to use innovative technology during a crucial pre-revenue stage. A startup based in D.C. told me that a similar license from another notable company would cost them $200,000. Well then, I feel like Santa Claus!

Our CEO, Frank Ricotta, is a unique thought-leader, and?Frank wants to help other startups to thrive and solve the health care problems?they set out to accomplish. My years of reading Mr. McClure's philosophy about giving led me to my work today. As I say, "It found me."

As a representative for Frank's vision for BurstIQ's technology being shared, I am here to give to entrepreneurs, and hopefully, their company will get real value from our rare technology because it expands their services creating monetary value. As a result, they continue to use BurstIQ. And like a boomerang, what comes around goes around.

It is believed that once you give something away, you automatically create space to be able to receive, and you will receive back ten times what you give. Whether that is true or not, it is imperative that every person I meet, I act with an intentional and enthusiastic heart.

Angie, you certainly chose the right mentor! Great article and it rings so true. There is nothing that makes me feel more satisfied than to help someone and to see some type of result from it (and without expecting anything in return). Great article. Keep up the good work and keep passing it on!?

Very inspiring and a great reminder in the power or our "words" and ultimately the work we do.? I like to say it like this, "Love what you do, who you do it with, and who you do it for!"? Passion for your purpose and daily efforts, a winning combination.? Trifecta!
