How To Get More Facebook Likes

The amount of people that use Facebook worldwide is astounding. It’s one of the reasons why having a business page on Facebook is an absolute must - there’s a huge audience out there that you’re missing out on if you’re not using Facebook.

In fact, according to data gathered only a year ago, roughly 4.4 million people in Hong Kong use Facebook - that’s around 63 percent! Now there are a lot of different reasons to use Facebook for your business.

Many companies leverage Facebook to make more sales, increase their leads or increase brand exposure, to name a few common goals. In order to accomplish any of these goals, the first thing you need to do is build an actual audience on Facebook. This requires getting more “likes.”

Below we've outlined a few pointers on how you can get more likes on your Facebook page! In case you want an extensive guide with tips and checklists, check out our free ebook "How To Attract Customers with Facebook".

Provide Searchable Information on Your Facebook Page

All of the content that you provide on your Facebook page is indexed by search engines. This means that you’ll want to make sure that you fill out all available fields. Additionally, you should have information about the company and the services you provide that’s updated regularly.

Each page of content should be optimized using relevant keywords. However, don’t go crazy with the keywords either - you don’t want to diminish the quality of your content. Also, don’t forget to provide a link back to your main website!

Add “Like” Buttons to Your Website and Blog

One of the best ways to promote your Facebook page is by using “like” buttons on your website and blog. For example, for every piece of content that you publish on your blog, you should have a “like” button on it. This allows readers to immediately share the content on their Facebook page. This will expose the content to everyone in that reader’s Facebook social circle, increasing your company’s exposure as well as the odds of obtaining more likes, thereby increasing your Facebook audience.

“Like” buttons can be used in a lot of different places besides your blog as well, such as your email newsletters that you send out. Embedding a “like” button isn’t very difficult to do either.

Ask Your Contacts to “Like” Your Facebook Page

You probably have plenty of friends, family and even existing customers around Hong Kong as well as outside of Hong Kong. Don’t be afraid to ask them to “like” your Facebook page. Most people will be more than happy to do so. There are a number of ways that you can ask them:

  • You can do it the traditional way, by simply asking them in person, or you can email them or send a request through Facebook. Not only does this build your audience, it will help expose your brand to a whole group of other social circles.
  • Another way to increase exposure to existing connections is by uploading a list of emails to Facebook. The people on that list will be more likely to see suggestions to like your Facebook page.

Ask Your Employees to “Like” Your Facebook Page

Asking your employees is also an effective way to build your initial numbers. Other people are more likely to follow your company on Facebook if you’ve already got a decent amount of “likes,” so don’t hesitate to ask your employees. In fact, employees that are especially proud to work for your company may even post a link to your Facebook page on their Facebook profile!

Advertise Your Facebook Presence Offline

If you have a physical storefront in Hong Kong, then there’s no reason why you can’t advertise your Facebook presence to your customers. There are a number of ways that you can do this.

  • Simply put up some stickers on the front door that promote your Facebook page
  • Add your Facebook URL to your receipts and to your business cards
  • Run an in-store promotion that offers discounts to customers in return for “liking” your Facebook page. You can simply ask customers after they check out to check out your Facebook page.

Cross Promote Via LinkedIn and Twitter

It’s a good idea to have more than one social media presence. While Facebook is an absolute must have, social channels such as Twitter and LinkedIn can be quite beneficial as well. If you have profiles on these social media channels, then cross promote by adding a link to your Facebook page onto your Twitter and LinkedIn pages. This will remind followers from other social channels to “like” you on Facebook if they haven’t already.

Regularly Post Valuable Content

One of the best ways to increase your following on Facebook is to provide content that has value to your readers. High quality content that is helpful or informative to your readers will help to establish you as an authority within your field. When you foster such a reputation, you’ll build trust and loyalty in your followers.

More people will read the content you post regularly, and they’ll be more likely to share your content with their social circles, thereby increasing the exposure of your brand. This is very much a long-term strategy, but one that is very effective. Posting good content is also a great way to engage followers since they can comment on it. This can help drive conversations about your brand, which in turn also helps with exposure.

To write good content, you need to understand who your buyer persona is. Don’t try to write content for all of Facebook - focus on who your target audience is. Additionally, don’t be afraid to post content from other sources if you think it’s helpful or informative to your followers. In fact, if you provide a link to content from another source, that source may end up returning the favor one day by linking to some of your content.

Maintain an Active Presence

You can’t just ask people to “like” your page and then ignore your Facebook profile as soon as you obtain your “likes.” You need to maintain a consistent presence in order to build up your audience. If you aren’t posting content or engaging with followers on a regular basis, not only will you not increase your audience, you’ll risk losing the interest of those that are following you.

Use Facebook Ads

Facebook Ads are a great way to increase exposure of your brand. Basically, you pay a fee in order to promote certain posts. You can target these posts to specific demographics, thereby increasing your odds of obtaining more “likes.”  You can even pay for a specific Facebook Ad called “Page Like Ads,” which display a call-to-action to “like” your page. Even though you do have to pay in order to use Facebook Ads, it’s well worth the money if your budget allows for it.
