People often ask me, "How do you get so much done?"
It’s simple:
Stack and Sequence.
Recently, I had a trip in Toronto on the 9th and then I was coming home just to go back to New York on the 13th.
Those two trips are hard on me and hard on my plane—not to mention a lot of fuel.
The solution is to COMBINE the two trips into one and stack deals and appointments in between.
So, rather than going out to do two individual trips and be stuck on a plane twice...this is what we did:
- Miami to Toronto on 9th to speak.
- Finish speech at 7pm, then fly to New York and have meetings on 10th.
- Hang with family in the city on the 11th.
- Book meetings on the 12th and 13th where the original meeting was and then fly home.
This went from two one hour speaking engagements to 7 meetings, four interviews, AND time with the family while saving us 6 hours of flight time.
When I get booked to do a trip or have a meeting somewhere this is how I book the trip so I can maximize the trip to get the most done:
1) I make a decision to get more done on the trip than just what is originally booked.
2) I book the dates, times and locations of my originating meeting...then I stack my meetings, meaning I never go without adding other meetings before and after the original meeting.
3) I put the time, location, and duration of the original meeting on the calendar including a contact person in case of changes or questions. I then begin to map out the route or sequence of the trip on a piece of paper and look for the most efficient flows.
4) I look for other opportunities on the route to combine or stop by and visit while I'm out. I think, "What other opportunities are near this area?"
Look for the most efficient flow and then start to look for other opportunities to combine.
5) This is when I begin to promote the trip to others in the area in hopes to stack more opportunities. The goal is to get other meetings.
For example, I'll go to my social media and quickly post:
I will be in NY on the 7th, would love to come see you. Text me at...
(I'll also make a list of clients in the area and call them because not everyone will see your social media posts)
6) I continue to add new meetings before and after until I have a firm schedule. Now I go back to map things out to maximize the trip by determining the most efficient hotels, airports, and routes to use.
I once did five cities in two states in one day and still got home by 10pm
Efficient doesn't mean saving money, it means getting more done!
Remember, you can't save your way to a billion dollars!
