How to Get a Meeting with a Busy or Successful Person
Between my commitments with MarketBeat, Zeal, Falls Angel Fund, 1 Million Cups and other organizations, I had 15 meetings this week. However, I could have had 10 more meetings if I had said yes to everyone that wanted to have a meeting with me to discuss their business or non-profit.
There are four questions that I ask when deciding whether or not to take a meeting:
- Does it fit one of my boxes? In other words, does this meeting relate to any of the things that I already care about?
- Does this person live near me or are they part of any physical or social communities that I am apart of?
- Do I have an existing connection with this person?
- Will there be a mutual exchange of value, or does this conversation only benefit one side?
I recorded a video that talks about the criteria that I use to determine whether or not to take a meeting and how to approach someone who’s time is at a premium.
