12 Tips to Getting a Job in 72 Hours

Twenty one million people have been unemployed in less than three weeks. This is the fastest reversal of employment numbers in the history of our country. Companies of all sizes, large and small, have been forced to let people go with almost no notice due to the coronavirus pandemic and country being shut down.

My companies were hiring people in the first week of March and having to let those people go three weeks later because we couldn't properly onboard and acclimate them. Industries have had to do the same thing and almost no one has not been impacted; airlines, hotels, restaurants, retail, banking and more.

Three times in my life I was unemployed when there was similar unemployment situation. Looking for work when people are firing is not just scary it requires and different set of skills. In each one of those scenarios not only did I get a job, twice I got a dream job.

Tip #1:  DON’T ACCEPT LONG TERM UNEMPLOYMENT 

Stay away from any idea that you will accept unemployment any longer than a short time. Unemployment can be a killer, disguising itself as income while it robs you of purpose, work, structure and a new start.  

Do not be tricked into accepting payments long term, it will harder to get a job later in the cycle than right now. 

I am not saying don't take the unemployment, I am saying don't take it long term. And yes, you paid into it, yes, you deserve it, yes you probably need it right now and yes millions of others are taking it. Go get yours and then go get a job right away.

Long term unemployment is never good on a resume. The Government offers crumbs compared to what you can get if you creative. Even with the $600 bump you are still limited to how much you can make. Tip #2:  First Step to Getting a New Job

No one is actually ever out of work…..the day you lose your job, you immediately have a new job. The new JOB is to get a job and you are working for yourself. I have lost seven jobs in my life. The last time I lost a job, I realized immediately I had to get a new job, and that was my new job. Within four days I had no only a new job, but a better job and what would prove to be a new career.

So quit telling yourself you are out of a job, you aren't. Your job right now is to get a job. Change your mind and change what you are telling yourself.

Shift from denial, anger, and blame to commitment and creativity. Quit saying you are out of work it will become a self-fulfilled prophecy of being out of work.  Now is the time to put more energy, effort, tenacity, persistence, and solutions into landing your new new job.   This may be a blessing in disguise and a rebirth for of who you are meant to be and your career.
