How do I get Interview calls?- EXPLAINED!
The main frustration for most job seekers is their inability to land relevant Interview calls. Pay close attention to the word “Relevant” as this is of key importance. It is very vital for the interview call you get to match your requirements as well as your candidature. If the match isn’t present, then higher chances are that you won’t get that job. If you get that job you won’t be satisfied with that job which would then take a toll on your performance & motivation which in the future would lead to you losing out on the job either due to performance reasons or you quitting due to lack of motivation.
So how do you get these relevant interview calls?
Honestly, IT’S SIMPLE!
Through my experience of working at a company providing Human resource services and working closely under the guidance of expert Job search & Interview assistance coach Mr. Sarabjeet Sachar, I have realized that there are basically just 3 steps which any job seeker needs to follow to be able to get themselves an Interview call.
Presenting the steps below-
1. Look for relevant job openings which have perfect synchronisation between your requirements, your candidature and the job description. It is very very vital for you to play close attention to this step as this is the step that decides for the rest of your job search. A very common mistake most job seekers make is that they shortlist an incredibly large number of openings, majority of which don’t match their candidature and the requirements. The chance of you getting an interview with such openings is almost negligible, so don’t bother utilizing your precious time and energy on such openings. Time is a resource with economic value, and you utilizing your time on irrelevant openings diverts that particular time away from openings which were actually relevant, only if you’re matching the pre-requisites of that particular organization with your candidature and if the company matches your requirements should you actually shortlist that organization.
2. Once you’re done short listing the most relevant openings, get the contact details of the person responsible for recruitment of that post. Use Google, Naukri & LinkedIn to source for their contact details. Once you have their contact number, ring up the recruiter or their team and find out whether or not that opening is still valid & if it is valid then pitch your candidature in a very professional manner. Note the point “PROFESSIONAL MANNER”, You calling up the recruiter over a phone call can be a make or break moment, if your call to them isn’t professional enough or powerful enough then you might completely lose out on that opportunity, at the same time, if your tone & pitch is Powerful & Professional you might just create interest for your candidature in the mind of the recruiter. If you haven’t already sourced their personal email ID previously, source for their personal email ID over the phone call, tell them that you will be sending them an application over the email, after which you have to create a custom application according to the job description & job requirements and you need to send this directly to the recruiter.
3. The final step, I feel that this is a very crucial step in you getting the interview call. Through my experience and various studies conducted by our organization Aspiration Plus, we have realized that a candidate that follows up with a recruiter over the phone has a 65% higher chance of getting an interview call compared to those that don’t follow up. Just like I mentioned in the previous step, your follow up call needs to be very professional & powerful. Your follow up call has the potential of getting you an interview and hence you need to put your best foot forward in this particular call.
The steps presented above often raise a few doubts, I'll list down a few of those doubts and my answers to them below-
Q. How can I get the contact details of the person responsible for recruitment?
A. In 2018 we have platforms such as Google, Naukri & LinkedIn, by devoting proper quality time you can get the contact details of the relevant hiring manager in most cases, if not the hiring manager directly, you can always get in touch with the board line of the company or recruitment agency responsible for that vacancy.
Q. Recruiters never answer their phone, how do I make an initial call and then a follow up call?
A: Recruiters often get 100’s of calls in a day hence many calls go missed due to them being busy or other reasons. That does not mean that you give up. Try till you get through, but don’t repeatedly call them in a very short span, leave a certain gap between each call but make sure you try again. If that still doesn’t work, drop them a text message pitching your candidature in a powerful manner.

6 年Hey Rohit its really good post. i have seen many posts where people try to motivate but never found any one who can suggest on how to do it and your article addressed the same issue. Thanks alot and keep posting.
This sounds more like an apology for crap recruiting behavior and HR ignorance more than anything else. At the heart of it, HR and recruiters are a real problem and unnecessary hurdle for candidates and job seekers. They are toxic, useless, and woefully ignorant about understanding the backgrounds of candidates and what they can offer.
