How to Get Everything You Want Out of Life

How to Get Everything You Want Out of Life

Life is challenging. No kidding. You're an adult. You already know this.

But, lately, things have gone off the rails, and you feel like you're drowning. You're having trouble getting through the work day, let alone trying to fulfil your dreams.

So what can you do to get it back on track? Where do you start on the path back to recapturing the magic?

You don't need platitudes, you need results.

So here are seven proven ways to get everything you want out of life.

1. Get comfortable being uncomfortable:

I was an entrepreneur for seven years before selling my agency, and ultimately landing at a job I love at Productsup. Midway through the fourth year, of being an entrepreneur things were coming to a head. I wasn’t getting enough sleep, I wasn't exercising, and I wasn't keeping my mind clear with meditation.

In the middle of what felt like my most stressful month of my life, my most senior employee resigned. While I was complaining about the debacle to an entrepreneur friend, he called me out: “Get comfortable with the feeling that you have right now.”

Confused, I asked, “What feeling?” He replied, “Feeling uncomfortable. Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable.”

He stopped me in my tracks. He was right. We all need to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. We’re soft!

Here are 7 ways to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, according to one of the toughest and most resilient people I know, Green Beret Jason Van Camp.

2. Stop asking for permission

Fifteen years ago when I wanted to be a vice president, so I decided that a creative way to get the attention of hiring managers was to build my personal brand. Step number one was to launch my blog.

A few weeks later, an executive read one of my blog posts and offered me a job. Ten years ago, a producer discovered my blog and put me on TV. Now I appear on national television.

All because I didn’t follow the rules.

If you know that what you’re doing is the right thing. Do it.

Don’t hesitate.

Don’t delay.

Do it.

Now.

Today.

Or tonight.

I’m being serious. Your life depends on it. If you don’t you will regret it. Don’t let your self-limiting beliefs and irrational fear hold you back.

Here's more on why you need to stop asking for permission.

3. Destroy your toxic habits

We all want to be successful, but we don’t want to face what’s holding us back. Many of us ignore blind spots, only to fall prey to our shortcomings down the line.

So how can we trim the fat, cut our faults to the bone, and get into the habit of success?

Here are 10 toxic habits you need to destroy to allow success to find you:

4. Learn from those who have already done it

In 2016, I interviewed 24 of the most impressive people I knew. First, I published those interviews on my blog. Then I compiled those interviews into a book titled: Just Like You: 24 Interviews of Ordinary People Who’ve Achieved Extraordinary Success.

Here are 24 ways ordinary people have achieved extraordinary success, according to Just Like You.

5. Find your tribe

Find the people that love and support you. Find the people that are like minded. Find the weirdos, the whack-jobs, the nerds and the outcasts that are just like you.

Find the people that turn you on, make your heart sing and challenge you.

Every. Single. Day.

Here's why you need to find your tribe.

6. Know when it's time to quit

We persevere, push through barriers and succeed. But the most successful among us know when it’s time to quit.

When I say quit, I don’t mean throwing in the towel and giving up. That’s not it at all. It’s deciding to go a different direction.

We can often get caught up in the well thought-out plan but sometimes, actually, often times, change is good. Those who can embrace the change are the ones who will achieve their goals.

Here's how to determine when you should pivot your start-up according to a Stanford University Professor.

7. Attack everything in life with energy

A few years ago while I was building my agency I had a problem. I had no clue how to attack anything in my life with energy. I was working long hours, not sleeping well, and couldn’t motivate myself to do more. Success felt a world away.

I was smart enough to know that I needed to change something, but I was in a vicious sleep-deprived cycle.

You know the one. You’re tired, so you load up on coffee or energy drinks or sugar, or whatever will keep you going.

That pushes you through the day.

Then you can’t fall asleep so you lie in bed staring at the ceiling. Cursing your poor decision to have that cup of coffee at 5 pm. I finally broke the cycle, but it wasn’t easy.

Here are some simple hacks I’ve used to keep my energy level up throughout the day that you can do as well.
